The efficacy and safety of combination therapy (repaglinide plus pioglitazone) was compared to repaglinide or pioglitazone in 24-week treatment of type 2 diabetes. This randomized, multicenter, open-label, parallel-group study enrolled 246 adults (age 24-85) who had shown inadequate response in previous sulfonylurea or metformin monotherapy (HbA(1c) > 7%).(More)
BACKGROUND We found a high incidence of thrombotic deaths in COX-1(+/-)COX-2(-/-) mice and sought to define the mechanism of these events. The cyclooxygenase products thromboxane A(2) and prostacyclin are important in the regulation of coagulation but their role in fibrinolysis is largely unexplored. PAI-1 blocks fibrinolysis by inhibiting plasminogen(More)
The authors present a case of carcinoid of the ileocaecal valve. The patient complained for over one year of mild pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Colonoscopy had shown hyperaemia on the colic side of the ileocaecal valve which appeared substenotic and biopsy revealed micronodules formed by chromogranin-A-positive neuroendocrine cells.(More)
OBJECTIVE Ragaglitazar is a novel insulin sensitizer with dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-gamma and PPAR-alpha stimulating activities that improve plasma glucose and lipid profiles. The aim of the present dose-ranging study was to assess the efficacy and safety of ragaglitazar in patients with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND(More)
Prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) was measured by radioimmunoassay in human blood plasma collected from both ovarian veins and from a peripheral vein in eight pregnant and seven nonpregnant women. In the pregnant women, significantly higher levels of PGF2alpha were found in venous blood plasma taken from the ovary which contained the corpus luteum than were(More)
Tuberous sclerosis (TS) is a genodermatosis characterized by facial angiofibromas (FAs). These tumours cause aesthetic disfigurement and obstruction of vision, and haemorrhage when traumatized, which can lead to emotional distress and relationship difficulties.
