PURPOSE To determine specific retinal precursor lesions and sequence of events preceding the onset of geographic atrophy (GA) in eyes with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). DESIGN Retrospective review. PARTICIPANTS All participants in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) at 2 clinical centers (Devers Eye Institute, Portland, Oregon, and… (More)
BACKGROUND Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been suggested to retard cognitive decrements in patients with Alzheimer's disease. We postulated that NSAIDs also may protect acute disruption of memory. METHODS We studied the effect of indomethacin (4 mg/kg/day) administered daily for 19 days on retrograde amnesia induced by two once-daily… (More)
We generalize additional boundary conditions (ABCs) for wire media by including arbitrary wire junctions with impedance loading. Special attention is given to the conditions at the interface of two uniaxial wire media with metallic patches at the junction. The derived ABCs are validated against full-wave numerical simulations.
Primary hepatic lymphoma is extremely rare. Although the utility of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) for imaging extranodal lymphoma has been reported, there is very little literature describing its use in primary hepatic lymphoma. This case report demonstrates the effect of FDG-PET/computed tomography (CT) in a case of unifocal… (More)
Huriez syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by the triad of congenital scleroatrophy of the distal extremities, palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) and hypoplastic nails. We report the case of a 25 year old male, with nonfamilial Huriez syndrome.
CD30+ cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders (CLPDs) present variable clinical and histological manifestations. We report here a case of an adult male patient who progressed from lymphomatoid papulosis to anaplastic large cell lymphoma. The patient responded satisfactorily to a low dose of methotrexate.
