We report the safety and efficacy of combined radiofrequency ablation and cementoplasty in treating painful neoplastic bone lesions. Fifty-three combined radiofrequency ablation and cementoplasty procedures were completed in 36 patients. Thirty-four vertebrae (20 lumbar, 14 thoracic), 14 acetabulae, 3 sacra, 1 pubic symphysis, and 1 humerus were treated.(More)
Cystic adventitial disease (CAD) is a rare non-atherosclerotic cause of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). We describe a 54-year-old man who presented with calf claudication and catheter angiography showed the typical scallop appearances of CAD. Surgery involved resection of the diseased segment with a femoral popliteal venous bypass graft. A literature(More)
The aim of this study was to evaluate occult cervical spine fractures on radiographs and CT. We reviewed radiographs of 68 patients with cervical spine fractures at a level 1 trauma center. Twenty-six patients showed occult fractures on initial radiographs. Of seven odontoid fractures, two were diagnosed only after thinner repeat CT reconstructions. Five(More)
Existing animal models of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) present several problems: they are hard to reproduce, they are inefficient, and the CNV created is not sustainable. The purpose of this study is to develop a highly efficient, reliable, sustainable rabbit model of CNV to facilitate the study of anti-angiogenic and anti-proliferative therapies for(More)
OBJECTIVE To show a variety of benign breast lesions that exhibit posterior acoustic shadowing on sonography. METHODS The cases illustrate a variety of pathologic breast conditions that were collected at a referral breast center at a tertiary medical center. RESULTS A variety of pathologic conditions are discussed, with pathologic-imaging correlation.(More)
We evaluated the usefulness of 16- and 64-slice multidetector CT (MDCT) in the detection of a bleeding site in acute lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT) haemorrhage by conducting a retrospective study of cases of presumed acute lower GIT haemorrhage imaged with CT in two teaching hospitals in an 11-month period. The patients underwent contrast enhanced CT(More)
Image-guided musculoskeletal (MSK) biopsies are safe and effective procedures that yield diagnostic accuracies up to 97%. When performed in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team, they provide crucial information that will affect patient care and outcome. Computed tomography and ultrasound are the main modalities used to carry out MSK biopsies, and(More)
Controlled, wireless neuromodulation using miniature implantable devices is a long-sought goal in neuroscience. It will allow many studies and treatments that are otherwise impractical. Recent studies demonstrate advances in neuromodulation through optogenetics, but test animals are typically tethered, severely limiting experimental possibilities. Existing(More)
BACKGROUND Australian rules football is the most popular team sport in Australia. Literature on severe abdominal injuries in this sport is limited. The present study aims to review cases of renal trauma in Australian football at our institution. METHODS A retrospective study was performed. All men admitted to our institution with renal trauma or(More)
The ultimate goal of epilepsy therapies is to provide seizure control for all patients while eliminating side effects. Improved specificity of intervention through on-demand approaches may overcome many of the limitations of current intervention strategies. This article reviews the progress in seizure prediction and detection, potential new therapies to(More)
