Peak performance for magnetically confined fusion plasmas occurs near thresholds of instability for macroscopic modes that distort and possibly disrupt equilibrium conditions. In some cases, however, the best approach is to exceed stability thresholds and rely upon nonlinear saturation effects. Understanding this behaviour is essential for achieving… (More)
We report ellipticity dependence of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) from aligned N2, O2, and CO2 molecules. Experimentally, we find that the ellipticity dependence is sensitive to molecular alignment and to the shape and symmetry of the valence orbitals. It is also found that the destructive interference in the recombination process affects the… (More)
We measured ion and harmonic signals from aligned molecules as a function of the pump-probe delay. The observed anticorrelation between the two signals is the first demonstration of quantum interference of electron de Broglie waves.
With a sample of aligned CO2 molecules, we study their structural deformations under an intense laser field. The molecules are bent up to 24o with their a-axis aligned along the laser polarization direction. Recent development of molecular alignment technique in the adiabatic and in the nonadiabatic regimes has opened a way to investigate phenomena… (More)
