Taxonomic Status of the Bemisia tabaci Complex (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) and Reassessment of the Number of Its Constituent Species
- Wonhoon Lee, Jongsun Park, Gwan-Seok Lee, Seunghwan Lee, S. Akimoto
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 13 May 2013
It is suggested that it is necessary to increase the threshold for species boundaries up to 4% to distinguish the constituent species in the B. tabaci complex.
COI barcoding of true bugs (Insecta, Heteroptera)
- Sunghoon Jung, R. K. Duwal, Seunghwan Lee
- BiologyMolecular Ecology Resources
- 1 March 2011
The results suggest that COI barcodes can reveal new cryptic true bug species and are able to contribute for the exact identification of the true bugs.
Barcoding aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) of the Korean Peninsula: updating the global data set
- Wonhoon Lee, Hyojoong Kim, Seunghwan Lee
- BiologyMolecular Ecology Resources
- 1 January 2011
It is concluded that DNA barcodes can provide an effective tool for identifying aphid species in such applications as pest management, monitoring and plant quarantine.
Macroevolutionary Patterns in the Aphidini Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae): Diversification, Host Association, and Biogeographic Origins
- Hyojoong Kim, Seunghwan Lee, Y. Jang
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 15 September 2011
The results suggest that evolution of host alternation within Aphidini may have occurred during the Middle Tertiary (Oligocene) when the secondary hosts emerged.
Molecular phylogeny of black fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaroidea: Sciaridae) and the evolution of larval habitats.

Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoridae: Aphaeninae) finally, but suddenly arrived in Korea
- Junhyung Han, Hyojoong Kim, Eun-Ji Lim, Seunghwan Lee, Y. Kwon, Soowon Cho
- Biology
- 1 December 2008
A history of name changes in two fulgorid species –Lycorma delicatula and Limois emelianovi – is reviewed and its original Korean name, “ggot‐mae‐mi”, is revalidated.
Molecular comparison of Lycorma delicatula (Hemiptera: Fulgoridae) isolates in Korea, China, and Japan

Complete mitochondrial genome of brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), and phylogenetic relationships of hemipteran suborders
- Wonhoon Lee, J. Kang, C. Jung, K. Hoelmer, S. Lee, Seunghwan Lee
- BiologyMolecules and Cells
- 4 September 2009
Phylogenetic analyses using these 20 hemipteran mitochondrial genomes support the currently accepted hypothesis that suborders Heteroptera and Auchenorrhyncha form a monophyletic group.
Molecular phylogeny of the plant bugs (Heteroptera: Miridae) and the evolution of feeding habits
- Sunghoon Jung, Seunghwan Lee
- BiologyCladistics
- 1 February 2012
The first comprehensive cladistic analysis of Miridae, the plant bugs, is presented based on analysis of 3935 base pairs of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA for 91 taxa in seven subfamilies, indicating that the subfamily Bryocorinae is not monophyletic, as the two tribes, Dicypini and BryOCorini, were separated in the phylogenetic results.
Reassessment of Species Diversity of the Subfamily Denticollinae (Coleoptera: Elateridae) through DNA Barcoding
- T. Han, Wonhoon Lee, Seunghwan Lee, I. Park, Haechul Park
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 5 February 2016
It is confirmed that COI sequence is useful for reassessing species diversity for polymorphic and polytypic species occurring in sympatric and allopatric distributions, and for a single species having an extensively large habitat.
