- P. Keeling, Fabien Burki, A. Worden
- BiologyPLoS Biology
- 13 January 2014
This Community Page describes a resource of 700 transcriptomes from marine microbial eukaryotes to help understand their role in the world's oceans.
Spliced leader RNA trans-splicing in dinoflagellates
- Huan Zhang, Yubo Hou, Senjie Lin
- BiologyProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
- 13 March 2007
It is demonstrated that nuclear-encoded mRNAs in all species, from ancestral to derived lineages, are trans-spliced with the addition of the 22-nt conserved spliced leader (SL), DCCGUAGCCAUUUUGGCUCAAG (D = U, A, or G), to the 5′ end.
Bacterial Activity in South Pole Snow
- E. Carpenter, Senjie Lin, D. Capone
- BiologyApplied and Environmental Microbiology
- 1 October 2000
Large populations of bacteria were present in surface snow and firn from the south pole sampled in January 1999 and 2000 and DNA isolated from this snow yielded ribosomal DNA sequences similar to those of several psychrophilic bacteria and a bacterium which aligns closely with members of the genus Deinococcus.

Phosphorus physiological ecology and molecular mechanisms in marine phytoplankton
- Senjie Lin, R. Litaker, W. Sunda
- Environmental ScienceJournal of Phycology
- 1 February 2016
The physiological and molecular information on the acquisition, utilization, and storage of P in marine phytoplankton and the strategies used by these organisms to acclimate and adapt to variations in P availability are integrated.
The Symbiodinium kawagutii genome illuminates dinoflagellate gene expression and coral symbiosis
- Senjie Lin, Shifeng Cheng, D. Morse
- Biology, Environmental ScienceScience
- 6 November 2015
The genome of the Coral symbiont Symbiodinium reveals fundamental aspects of the coral-alga symbiosis and finds biochemical complementarity between genomes of S. kawagutii and the anthozoan Acropora, providing a resource for studying the molecular basis and evolution of coral symbiosis.
Fukuyoa paulensis gen. et sp. nov., a New Genus for the Globular Species of the Dinoflagellate Gambierdiscus (Dinophyceae)
- F. Gómez, Dajun Qiu, R. Lopes, Senjie Lin
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 1 April 2015
The morphological and molecular data in concert support the split of Gambierdiscus sensu lato into two genera, and the new genus name Fukuyoa contains the new species FukuyOA paulensis gen. et sp.
Serious Overestimation in Quantitative PCR by Circular (Supercoiled) Plasmid Standard: Microalgal pcna as the Model Gene
- Yubo Hou, Huan Zhang, L. Miranda, Senjie Lin
- Biology, EngineeringPLoS ONE
- 5 March 2010
It is concluded that circular plasmid DNA is unsuitable as a standard, and linear DNA should be used instead, in absolute qPCR, due to the serious overestimation by the circular Plasmid standard.
Distinct Gene Number-Genome Size Relationships for Eukaryotes and Non-Eukaryotes: Gene Content Estimation for Dinoflagellate Genomes
- Yubo Hou, Senjie Lin
- BiologyPLoS ONE
- 14 September 2009
Estimates of the relationship between gene content and genome size using regression analyses from completely sequenced and annotated genomes from phylogenetically diverse lineages do not likely represent extraordinarily high functional diversity of the encoded proteome but rather highly redundant genomes as evidenced by high gene copy numbers documented for various dinoflagellate species.
Genetic conspecificity of the worldwide populations of Didemnum vexillum Kott, 2002.
- L. Stefaniak, G. Lambert, M. Carman
- Biology
- 2009
Molecular data on both mitochondrial and nuclear genes from colonies sampled from Europe, east and west coasts of North America, Japan, and New Zealand strongly indicate that Didemnum sp.
