The search for water on the surface of the anhydrous Moon had remained an unfulfilled quest for 40 years. However, the Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) on Chandrayaan-1 has recently detected absorption features near 2.8 to 3.0 micrometers on the surface of the Moon. For silicate bodies, such features are typically attributed to hydroxyl- and/or water-bearing(More)
Neuroprotective effects of estradiol are well characterized in animal experimental models. However, in humans, the outcome of estrogen treatment for cognitive function and neurological diseases is very controversial. Selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) may represent an alternative to estrogen for the treatment or the prevention of(More)
The synthesis and in vivo SAR of 2-(2,2,2)-trifluoroethyl-benzimidazoles are described. Prostate antagonism and/or levator ani agonism can be modulated by varying the substitution at the 2-position of 5,6-dichloro-benzimidazoles. Potent androgen agonists on the muscle were discovered that strongly bind to the androgen receptor (2-17 nM) and show potent in(More)
The synthesis and in vivo SAR of N-benzyl, N-aceto, and N-ethylene ether derivatives of 2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-5,6-dichloro-benzimidazole as novel androgen receptor antagonists are described. SAR studies led to the discovery of 4-bromo-benzyl benzimidazole 17 as a more potent androgen receptor antagonist in the rat prostate (ID(50)=0.13mg/day), compared(More)
The synthesis and in vivo SAR of 5,6-dichloro-benzimidazole derivatives as novel selective androgen receptor antagonists are described. During screening of 2-alkyl benzimidazoles, it was found that a trifluoromethyl group greatly enhances antagonist activity in the prostate. Benzimidazole 1 is a potent AR antagonist in the rat prostate (ID50 = 0.15 mg/day).
A new series of phosphorus-containing 11beta-aryl-substituted steroids have been synthesized in an eight-step sequence involving a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction to introduce a phosphorus group onto the aromatic ring. The compounds were evaluated for progesterone receptor (PR) antagonist activity in a T47D cell-based assay and for glucocorticoid(More)
Progestins have a wide variety of activities in female reproduction. There are also pharmacological applications for progestins, including hormone replacement therapy and contraception. Here we report the development and characterization of the rat uterine complement component C3 mRNA as a molecular target for the evaluation of the antiestrogenic activity(More)
As part of a program aimed at the development of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), novel chromene scaffolds, benzopyranobenzoxapanes, were discovered. Many compounds showed binding affinity as low as 1.6-200 nM, displayed antagonist behaviors in the MCF-7 human breast adenocarcinoma cell line as well in Ishikawa cell line with IC(50) values in(More)
We previously reported a series of potent and selective pyrimidinyl pyrroloquinolone PDE5 inhibitors such as 2a for potential use in male erectile dysfunction (MED) (Sui, Z.; Guan, J.; Macielag, M. J.; Jiang, W.; Zhang, S.; Qiu, Y.; Kraft, P., Bhattacharjee, S.; John, T. M.; Craig, E.; Haynes-Johnson, D.; Clancy, J. J. Med. Chem. 2002, 45, 4094-4096).(More)
This study was designed to determine the magnitude of plantar pressures during level walking in comparison to other activities. These activities included climbing up stairs, going down stairs, a simple pivot while walking, and a crossover pivot while walking in normal individuals. Twelve volunteers, six men and six women, mean age 28 years, served as(More)
