BACKGROUND There is experimental evidence that targeted delivery of steroids to the inner ear can protect hearing during cochlear implant surgery. The best protection appears to be achieved through pre-treatment of the cochlea, but the time period required for treatment is long compared with the duration of surgery, and needs further optimization. The… (More)
This study reviews the long-term results of auditory brainstem implant (ABI) in neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) patients. Retrospective chart reviews of patients who received an ABI at the Melbourne Cochlear Implant Clinic since 1995. Ten patients with an average follow-up of five years were included. Three patients received the N22 ABI and seven received… (More)
BACKGROUND Rhinostomy patency is a problem in all forms of dacryocystorhinostomy. Laser-assisted procedures are potentially fast and result in excellent haemostasis. However, they may induce more fibroblastic activity, resulting in excessive scarring and stenosis of the rhinostomy, compared with non-laser dissection. OBJECTIVES The objective of this study… (More)
The entropy of an orthogonal matrix is defined. It provides a new interpretation of Hadamard matrices as those that saturate the bound for en-tropy.It appears to be a useful Morse function on the group manifold. It has sharp maxima and other saddle points. The matrices corresponding to the maxima for 3 and 5 dimensions are presented. They are integer… (More)
Stress in caprine lowers overall growth, performance and induces various haematological alterations. A study was conducted in 24 Osmanabadi goats divided randomly into four groups; negative control (I), positive control (II), treated groups III & IV. Group III was given Restobal liquid@20 ml/animal bid & group IV, Stresomix premix@5gm/day/animal with gur… (More)
We report a prospective, controlled trial to assess temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction following the use of a Boyle-Davis mouth gag during tonsillectomy. TMJ function was evaluated in patients undergoing tonsillectomy and a control group undergoing nasal surgery preoperatively and 6 weeks postoperatively. The main outcome measures were symptoms and… (More)
A 72-year-old patient with a Warthin's tumor of the right parotid gland developed massive necrosis of the tumour associated with temporary facial palsy with subsequent macroscopic tumour disappearance.
A study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of polyherbal growth promoter and liver tonic product Superliv concentrate premix simultaneously on performance of commercial broiler chicks. Sixty day old unsexed commercial broiler chicks were divided randomly into two identical groups of three replicates each. Control group I was given standard basal diet… (More)
An unusual presentation of acute tonsillitis complicated by retropharyngeal and thyroid abscess is reported. Spontaneous rupture of retropharyngeal abscess resulted in necrotic fistulae between the pharyngeal wall and the retropharyngeal space.
