Impact of IEEE 802.11n/ac PHY/MAC High Throughput Enhancements on Transport and Application Protocols—A Survey
TLDR
Impact of HT-WLAN PHY and MAC layer enhancements on various transport and application layer protocols is discussed and several research works that use aforesaid enhancements effectively to boost up data rate of end-to-end protocols are summarized.
HotDASH: Hotspot Aware Adaptive Video Streaming Using Deep Reinforcement Learning
TLDR
This work presents HotDASH, a system which enables opportune prefetching of user-preferred temporal video segments (called hotspots), and outperforms all baseline algorithms, with a 16.2% QoE improvement over the best-performing baseline, and achieves 14.31% better average bitrate due to its ability to prefetch opportunistically.
Deciding Handover Points Based on Context-Aware Load Balancing in a WiFi-WiMAX Heterogeneous Network Environment
TLDR
This paper proposes a handover decision mechanism in a WiFi-WiMAX integrated HetNet environment, which supports the “ quality of service” and “quality of experience” requirements of the end users.
Candid with YouTube: Adaptive Streaming Behavior and Implications on Data Consumption
TLDR
This study explores in depth YouTube's implementation of the DASH client, and identifies important parameters in YouTube's rate adaptation algorithm, and proposes an analytical model, augmented with a machine learning based classifier, to predict data consumption for a playback session in advance.
Proportional fairness in MAC layer channel access of IEEE 802.11s EDCA based wireless mesh networks
TLDR
A probabilistic approach is proposed to provide proportional fairness without solving global non-linear and non-concave optimization in IEEE 802.11s EDCA based Wireless Mesh Networks.
Dynamic link adaptation for High Throughput wireless access networks
TLDR
This paper proposes a closed-loop, cross-layer and statistic-based link adaptation algorithm called High Throughput Wireless Link Adaptation (HiWiLA) for high throughput wireless networks (HT-WLANs) where the metric of link adaptation is computed by “Received Signal Strength Indicator” of channel and observed MAC throughput.
Context Aware Handover Management: Sustaining QoS and QoE in a Public IEEE 802.11e Hotspot
TLDR
A context aware handover management scheme for proper load distribution in a public IEEE 802.11 network, supporting the class-aware bandwidth management policies, is designed in this paper and compared with other schemes proposed in the literature.
Performance Modeling and Analysis of IEEE 802.11 IBSS PSM in Different Traffic Conditions
TLDR
An analytical model is presented to compute the throughput, expected delay and expected power consumption in an IEEE 802.11 IBSS in power save mode (PSM) for different traffic conditions in the network and reveals a clear trade-off among throughput, delay, and average power consumption.
Impact of IEEE 802.11n/ac PHY/MAC High Throughput Enhancements over Transport/Application Layer Protocols - A Survey
TLDR
The impact of enhancements of PHY/MAC layer in HT-WLANs over transport/application layer protocols is discussed and different open challenges that can be explored for the development of next generation HT- WLAN technologies are list down.
WAVELET TRANSFORM BASED FAULT DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION IN TRANSMISSION LINE
This paper presents a Wavelet Transform based approach to detect and classify different shunt faults that may occur in transmission lines. The algorithm is based mainly on calculating the RMS values
