This checklist represents the first global checklist of chondrichthyans to include information on maximum size, geographic and depth distributions, as well as comments on taxonomically problematic species and recent and regularly overlooked synonymizations.
Reply to Borsa: ‘Molecular genetics as a valid contribution to the taxonomy of species complexes in stingrays: comment on Weigmann's global checklist of chondrichthyan fishes’
An annotated checklist of chondrichthyans does neither provide the suitable platform nor sufficient space for the extensive discussion of taxonomic and nomenclatural problems, and robust genetic analyses provide a valuable addition to classic, morphological taxonomy.
Contribution to the Taxonomy and Distribution of Six Shark Species (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) from the Gulf of Thailand
It could be proven that the teeth morphologically deviate strongly from those shown in literature due to having much larger cusps, and the known distribution area of Paragaleus randalli could be extended considerably eastwards by about 2000 km.
A new microendemic species of the deep-water catshark genus Bythaelurus (Carcharhiniformes, Pentanchidae) from the northwestern Indian Ocean, with investigations of its feeding ecology, generic
A new deep-water catshark, Bythaelurus stewarti, is described based on 121 examined specimens caught on the Error Seamount in the northwestern Indian Ocean and has a strongly different morphology of dermal denticles.
Apristurus breviventralis, a new species of deep-water catshark (Chondrichthyes: Carcharhiniformes: Scyliorhinidae) from the Gulf of Aden.
A new deep-water catshark of the genus Apristurus Garman, 1913 is described based on nine specimens from the Gulf of Aden in the northwestern Indian Ocean and is distinguishable in having greater nostril length than internarial width and longer claspers in adult males.
Revision of the sixgill sawsharks, genus Pliotrema (Chondrichthyes, Pristiophoriformes), with descriptions of two new species and a redescription of P. warreni Regan
The present manuscript contains a redescription of P. warreni involving the syntypes and additional material, as well as formal descriptions of two new species of Pliotrema Regan.
Distribution and comments on the morphology of Centroscymnus owstonii Garman, 1906 (Squaliformes: Somniosidae), with focus on its occurrence in the Indian Ocean
The Roughskin Dogfish Centroscymnus owstonii was reinvestigated with focus on its poorly known distribution in the western and eastern Indian Ocean, and the first records from off Reunion Island, Madagascar, and Indonesia are provided.
Planonasus parini n. g. and n. sp., a new genus and species of false cat sharks (Carchariniformes, Pseudotriakidae) from the deep northwestern Indian Ocean off Socotra Islands.
A new genus and species of the carcharhiniform family Pseudotriakidae is described based on three specimens caught near the Socotra Islands in the northwestern Indian Ocean. The first specimen and
