This study describes and applies a method for tracking, explaining and measuring changes between successive versions of upper level ontologies such as the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO), and shows that BFO has undergone eight types of changes that can be systematically explained by the extended evaluation schema.
Mapping WordNet to the Basic Formal Ontology using the KYOTO ontology
- S. Seppälä
- Computer ScienceInternational Conference on Biomedical Ontology

The hypothesis is that a large portion of WN, primarily nouns and verbs, can be semi-automatically mapped to BFO 2.0 types by means of simple mapping rules exploiting another ontology already linked to WN.

The Functions of Definitions in Ontologies
- S. Seppälä, A. Ruttenberg, Barry Smith
- Philosophy, Computer ScienceFormal Ontology in Information Systems

- S. Seppälä
- Computer Science
- 2015
The objectives of this article are to show that it is possible to create implementable generic definition models, to show how to constrain these models to produce definitions relevant to particular contexts, and to propose an ontological analysis framework with a fixed and well-motivated descriptive vocabulary.
