Hyperthyroidism and other causes of thyrotoxicosis: management guidelines of the American Thyroid Association and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
Evidence-based clinical guidelines for the management of thyrotoxicosis are described that would be useful to generalist and subspeciality physicians and others providing care for patients with this condition.
Molecular cloning of the rat A2 adenosine receptor: selective co-expression with D2 dopamine receptors in rat striatum.

One hundred twenty-four evidence-based recommendations were developed to aid in the care of patients with thyrotoxicosis and to share what the task force believes is current, rational, and optimal medical practice.
The treatment of differentiated thyroid cancer in children: emphasis on surgical approach and radioactive iodine therapy.
It is recommended that total thyroidectomy and central compartment lymph node dissection is the surgical procedure of choice for children with DTC if it can be performed by a high-volume thyroid surgeon and long-term follow-up is recommended.

Exposure of RFL9 in COS-6M cells resulted in ligand binding and functional activity characteristics of an adenosine receptor that is coupled positively to adenylyl cyclase, and in situ hybridization studies showed no specific hybridization pattern in brain, but a hybridization signal was readily observed in the hypophyseal pars tuberalis.
Putative melatonin receptors in a human biological clock.
The results suggest that putative melatonin receptors are located in a human biological clock, and specifically found in the suprachiasmatic nuclei of hypothalami from adults and fetuses.
Molecular cloning and characterization of a rat A1-adenosine receptor that is widely expressed in brain and spinal cord.
Examination of the distribution of A1-adenosine receptor mRNA by Northern blot analysis showed that it is highly expressed in brain, spinal cord, testis, and white adipose tissue, and may mediate many of the modulatory actions of adenosine in neural and endocrine systems.
Neuregulin-1 promotes formation of the murine cardiac conduction system

The hypothesis that endocardial-derived neuregulins may be the major endogenous ligands responsible for inducing murine embryonic cardiomyocytes to differentiate into cells of the conduction system is supported.
Propylthiouracil (PTU) Hepatoxicity in Children and Recommendations for Discontinuation of Use
Current PTU use in children taking this medication should be stopped in favor of alternate therapies, and routine biochemical surveillance of liver function and hepatocellular integrity is not useful in identifying children who will develop liver failure.
Putting propylthiouracil in perspective.
The role of PTU during pregnancy has been reevaluated and the role of biochemical monitoring of liver integrity in patients taking drugs known to cause hepatic damage was discussed at two meetings, a complex and incomplete but, nonetheless, worrisome picture emerged from these meetings.
