Gaussian states in continuous variable quantum information
- A. Ferraro, S. Olivares, M. Paris
- Physics
- 31 March 2005
These notes originated out of a set of lectures in Quantum Optics and Quantum Information given by one of us (MGAP) at the University of Napoli and the University of Milano. A quite broad set of…
Experimental realization of quantum illumination.
- E. D. Lopaeva, I. Ruo Berchera, I. Degiovanni, S. Olivares, G. Brida, M. Genovese
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 18 March 2013
A main achievement of this result is the demonstration of a strong robustness of the quantum protocol to noise and losses that challenges some widespread wisdom about quantum technologies.
Qubit thermometry for micromechanical resonators
- M. Brunelli, S. Olivares, M. Paris
- Physics
- 15 March 2011
We address estimation of temperature for a micromechanical oscillator lying arbitrarily close to its quantum ground state. Motivated by recent experiments, we assume that the oscillator is coupled to…
Bayesian estimation in homodyne interferometry
- S. Olivares, M. Paris
- Mathematics
- 16 January 2009
The performances of the two-step methods are investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulated experiments with a small number of homodyne data, thus giving a quantitative meaning to the notion of asymptotic optimality.
Optical phase estimation in the presence of phase diffusion.
- M. Genoni, S. Olivares, M. Paris
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 6 December 2010
This work addresses the estimation of phase in the presence of phase diffusion and evaluates the ultimate quantum limits to precision for phase-shifted Gaussian states and finds that homodyne detection is a nearly optimal detection scheme in the limit of very small and large noise.
Continuous-variable-entanglement dynamics in structured reservoirs
- R. Vasile, S. Olivares, M. Paris, S. Maniscalco
- Physics
- 13 October 2009
We address the evolution of entanglement in bimodal continuous variable quantum systems interacting with two independent structured reservoirs. We derive an analytic expression for the entanglement…
Quantum optics in the phase space
- S. Olivares
- Physics
- 3 November 2011
In this tutorial, we introduce the basic concepts and mathematical tools needed for phase-space description of a very common class of states, whose phase properties are described by Gaussian Wigner…
Teleportation improvement by inconclusive photon subtraction
- S. Olivares, M. Paris, R. Bonifacio
- Physics
- 25 September 2002
Inconclusive photon subtraction (IPS) is a conditional measurement scheme to force nonlinear evolution of a given state. In IPS the input state is mixed with the vacuum in a beam splitter and then…
High-Order Photon-Number Correlations: a Resource for Characterization and Applications of Quantum States
- A. Allevi, S. Olivares, M. Bondani
- Physics
- 1 December 2012
We measure high-order correlation functions of detected-photon numbers in the mesoscopic regime by means of hybrid photodetectors. The analytical expressions for correlations are evaluated in terms…
