Anatomical features of species of Cyperaceae from northeastern Brazil
- S. Martins, M. Alves
- BiologyBrittonia
- 4 June 2009
The anatomical data obtained corroborate earlier studies of species of Cyperaceae as to the presence of Kranz anatomy and the anatomical types in several species and the “Kranzkette” pattern in Cyperus ligularis and Cyperu pohlli.
Anatomical variations in scapes of Eleocharis minima Kunth (Cyperaceae, Poales) - amphibian and Kranz species
- S. Martins, V. L. Scatena
- Biology
- 17 June 2015
The plasticity of the Kranz anatomy in Eleocharis minima and in other species of the genus is probably related to the amphibious habit, so the use of characters related to KranZ anatomy inEleocharis in phylogenetic and evolutionary approaches should be restricted and carefully analyzed in view of its plasticity.
Influence of soil water content and atmospheric conditions on leaf water potential in cv. “Touriga Nacional” deep-rooted vineyards
- P. Rodrigues, V. Pedroso, J. P. Gouveia, S. Martins, C. Lopes, I. Alves
- Environmental ScienceIrrigation science
- 15 June 2012
In this study, the influence of soil and atmosphere conditions on noon and basal leaf water potential of vines “Touriga Nacional” in the Dão region submitted to different irrigation treatments is…

Diversity of Cyperaceae in Brazil
- M. Alves, A. C. Araujo, W. Thomas
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 1 April 2009
The purpose of this catalogue was to combine the available data from publications, theses, databases, and herbarium specimens from around 120 Herbaria, and colections sampled in Brazilian vegetation during the last 15 years to produce the most complete list of Cyperaceae species for Brazil.
Occurrence and evolutionary inferences about Kranz anatomy in Cyperaceae (Poales).
- S. Martins, M. Alves, V. L. Scatena
- BiologyAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
- 1 October 2015
The results showed that the four types of Kranz anatomy (associated with C4 photosynthesis) in Cyperaceae emerged numerous times in unrelated phylogenetic groups, however, the convergence of these anatomical types, except rhynchosporoid, was observed in certain groups.
Morphological diversity of foliar trichomes in Asteraceae from Sand-fields of the Pampa biome, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil
- Vanessa Liesenfeld, Patrícia Gentz, E. Freitas, S. Martins
- BiologyHoehnea
- 2019
A large number of trichomes is an adaptive strategy to the adverse conditions of the Pampa biome and its morphological diversity can be useful in the family systematics.
Germination performance of congeneric Styrax species from the Cerrado sensu lato areas and their distribution pattern in different physiognomies

Bundle sheath ontogeny in Kranz and non-Kranz species of Cyperaceae (Poales)
- S. Martins, V. L. Scatena
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 26 October 2011
The ontogeny of the bundle sheaths of leaves and scapes of Cyperaceae species was studied to determine primary homologies and standardise the terminology used for its description.
The influence of mycorrhization on the growth of Zea mays L. and the sclerification of foliar tissues susceptible to chewing insect attacks
- Silvana Damin, Rosilaine Carrenho, S. Martins
- BiologyRevista Brasileira de Botânica
- 13 July 2020
It can be concluded that colonization of corn roots by AMF promotes sclerification of leaf tissues and, thus, may interfere indirectly with the plant–pest relationship by altering the quality of phytomass available for insects.
