A 60-million-year Cenozoic history of western Amazonian ecosystems in Contamana, eastern Peru
Generation of marker-free plastid transformants using a transiently cointegrated selection gene
The generation of marker-free chloroplast transformants in tobacco is described using the reconstitution of wild-type pigmentation in combination with plastid transformation vectors, which prevent stable integration of the kanamycin selection marker.

It is predicted that the Oligocene faunal exchange between the Indian subcontinent and Asia, as shown here for rhacophorid frogs, also applies for other nonvolant organisms with an Indian–Asian distribution, and is suggested that previous studies that deal with this faunaal interchange should be carefully reinvestigated.
Ancient animal microRNAs and the evolution of tissue identity
Findings reveal that microRNA evolution and the establishment of tissue identities were closely coupled in bilaterian evolution, and outline a minimum set of cell types and tissues that existed in the protostome–deuterostome ancestor.
Phylogeny, biogeography and a new taxonomy for the Gecarcinucoidea Rathbun, 1904 (Decapoda: Brachyura)
Evolution of freshwater crab diversity in the Aegean region (Crustacea: Brachyura: Potamidae).
Higher Plant Plastids and Cyanobacteria Have Folate Carriers Related to Those of Trypanosomatids*
Findings establish conservation of function among folate and biopterin transporter family proteins from three kingdoms of life.
Identification of a cryptic lineage within Potamon fluviatile (Herbst) (Crustacea : Brachyura : Potamidae)
Based on mitochondrial and nuclear DNA-sequence data, an evolutionary separate lineage is identified and described (Potamon pelops, sp. nov.) within the potamid freshwater crab species Potamon fluviatile (Herbst, 1785).
Folate biofortification in tomatoes by engineering the pteridine branch of folate synthesis.

It is demonstrated that engineering a moderate increase in pteridine production can significantly enhance the folate content in food plants and that boosting the PABA supply can produce further gains.

A novel method to investigate the temporal dynamics of biotic interchange based on a phylogeographical meta-analysis by calculating the maximal number of observed dispersal events per million years given the temporal uncertainty of the underlying time-calibrated phylogenies is presented.
