Portulene, a new diterpene from Portulaca oleracea L.
Co-treatment of CCl4 hepatic injured rats with 70% alcohol extract of P. oleracea significantly restored the hepatic marker enzymes and total bilirubin to near-normal values, which demonstrated hepatoprotective activity, and the P. Oleracea extract showed antibacterial and antifungal activities. Expand
Natural anti-obesity agents
The anti-obesity potential of natural products is discussed and multiple-natural product combinations may result in a synergistic activity that increases their bioavailability and action on multiple molecular targets, offering advantages over chemical treatments. Expand
Callyaerins A-F and H, new cytotoxic cyclic peptides from the Indonesian marine sponge Callyspongia aerizusa.
Seven new cytotoxic cyclic peptides callyaerins A-F (1-6) and H (8) showed biological activity in antibacterial assays and in various cytotoxicity assays employing different tumour cell-lines (L5178Y, HeLa, and PC12). Expand
Hypoestenonols A and B, new fusicoccane diterpenes from Hypoestes forskalei
The total MeOH extract and isolated compounds were tested for their antiprotozoal and cytotoxic activities and showed moderate activity against Plasmodium falciparum, Leishmania infantum, Trypanosoma cruzi, and TrypanOSoma brucei. Expand
New xanthones and cytotoxic constituents from Garcinia mangostana fruit hulls against human hepatocellular, breast, and colorectal cancer cell lines.
The mechanism of antiproliferative/cytotoxic effects of the tested compounds was investigated and it was found that only 5 induced significant cell cycle arrest at G0/G1-phase which is indicative of its antiprolifierative properties. Expand
Theonellamide G, a Potent Antifungal and Cytotoxic Bicyclic Glycopeptide from the Red Sea Marine Sponge Theonella swinhoei
The polar fraction of the organic extract of the Red Sea sponge Theonella swinhoei yielded a new bicyclic glycopeptide, theonellamide G, which showed potent antifungal activity towards wild and amphotericin B-resistant strains of Candida albicans and cytotoxic activity against the human colon adenocarcinoma cell line. Expand
Mangostanaxanthones I and II, new xanthones from the pericarp of Garcinia mangostana.
Two new xanthones were isolated from the pericarp of Garcinia mangostana and showed selective antifungal potential toward Aspergillus fumigatus and quorum-sensing inhibitory activity against Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472. Expand
New Constituents from the Rhizomes of Egyptian Iris germanica L.
Chemical investigation of the methanolic extract of the rhizomes of Iris germanica L. (Iridaceae) afforded two new compounds; irigenin S (7) and iriside A (12), together with ten known compounds:Expand
Eucalyptone G, a new phloroglucinol derivative and other constituents from Eucalyptus globulus Labill
A new pholoroglucinol derivative named eucalyptone G (4) together with nine known compounds (1-3, 5-10) were isolated for the first time from the ethyl acetate fraction of the bark of small twigs ofExpand
Protective activity of tovophyllin A, a xanthone isolated from Garcinia mangostana pericarps, against acetaminophen-induced liver damage: role of Nrf2 activation.
Tovophyllin A has a marked protective activity against APAP-induced hepatotoxicity which may be linked to its ability to activate Nrf2 and inhibit the NF-κB signaling pathway. Expand
