The identification of vaginal Lactobacillus species and the demographic and microbiologic characteristics of women colonized by these species.
Vaginal lactobacilli isolated from 215 sexually active women were identified using whole-chromosomal DNA probes to 20 American Type Culture Collection Lactobacillus strains and were positively associated with being white, age >/=20 years, barrier contraceptive usage, and lower frequency of bacterial vaginosis and gonorrhea. AR is expressed in a significant number of ER-negative cases and shows significant associations with important clinical and pathologic prognostic factors, and patients with AR-positive tumors had significantly better disease-free survival. Expand
Hydrogen peroxide-producing lactobacilli and acquisition of vaginal infections.
The hypothesis that H2O2-producing vaginal lactobacilli protect against acquisition of BV but do not protect against VVC or vaginal trichomoniasis is supported. Expand
Genital human papillomavirus infection in men: incidence and risk factors in a cohort of university students.
- J. M. Partridge, J. Hughes, +9 authors L. Koutsky
- The Journal of infectious diseases

Genital HPV infection is common and multifocal in young men, and its incidence is higher than that reported for similar cohorts of young women, and should be considered when strategies for the prevention of HPV infection in female adolescents and young women are being developed. Expand
Increased risk of high-grade cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions and invasive cervical cancer among African women with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and 2 infections.

Higher HIV plasma RNA loads and lower CD4 cell counts were associated with high-risk HPV infection and degree of cervical abnormality among women with HIV, and this association was not observed among women not infected withhigh-risk HPVs. Expand
HIV prevalence, previous HIV testing, and condom use with clients and regular partners among Senegalese commercial sex workers
Condom use with regular partners is low among registered CSWs in Senegal, and a prior HIV negative test is associated with even less condom use withregular partners, therefore preventing HIV transmission from this population to the general population is important. Expand
Technologies for Detecting Falsified and Substandard Drugs in Low and Middle-Income Countries
Although there is no single technology that can serve all the requirements of detecting falsified and substandard drugs, there is an opportunity to bifurcate the technologies into specific niches to address specific sections within the workflow process of detecting products. Expand
Detection of aberrant methylation of four genes in plasma DNA for the detection of breast cancer.

- Journal of clinical oncology : official journal…
- 10 September 2006
Data suggest that epigenetic markers in plasma may be of interest for detection of breast cancer, and identification of additional breast cancer specific methylated genes with higher prevalence in early stage cancers would improve this approach. Expand
Prevalence of specific types of human papillomavirus and cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions in consecutive, previously unscreened, West‐African women over 35 years of age
The data suggest that in addition to HPV16, HPV58 should be considered in the strategic planning of vaccination against cervical cancer in this geographic region. Expand
