Monitoring the orientation and dynamics of a novel fluorescent cholesterol probe, 6-dansylcholestanol (DChol), in membranes of different phase type utilizing sensitive fluorescence techniques including the red-edge excitation shift (REES) approach shows that fluorescence emission maximum, anisotropy, and lifetime of DChol are dependent on the phase of the membrane.

The photophysical behaviour of a new pyrene derivative, 1-(4-N,N-dimethylaminophenylethynyl)pyrene (DMAPEPy), in various solvents has been studied and shows high steady-state fluorescence anisotropy, which is very sensitive to the viscosity change of the medium.
