A requirement for the immediate early gene Zif268 in the expression of late LTP and long-term memories
It is shown that whereas mutant mice exhibit early LTP in the dentate gyrus, late LTP is absent when measured 24 and 48 hours after tetanus in the freely moving animal, and Zif268 is essential for the transition from short-to-long-term synaptic plasticity and for the expression of long-term memories.
Transient Neuronal Populations Are Required to Guide Callosal Axons: A Role for Semaphorin 3C
Neurons, glia, and callosal axons operate as a “ménage à trois” in the development of the corpus callosum.
Patterning of the lateral ganglionic eminence by the Gsh1 and Gsh2 homeobox genes regulates striatal and olfactory bulb histogenesis and the growth of axons through the basal ganglia
Observations show that Gsh1 and Gsh2 have early roles in defining the identity of LGE progenitor cells, and highlight the developmental interdependence of adjacent telencephalic structures.
Dose-dependent functions of Fgf8 in regulating telencephalic patterning centers
The data suggest that Fgf8 functions to coordinate multiple patterning centers, and that modifications in the relative strength of FGF signaling can have profound effects on the relative size and nature of telencephalic subdivisions.
Family of Ebf/Olf‐1‐related genes potentially involved in neuronal differentiation and regional specification in the central nervous system
A detailed analysis of the expression of each of the three Ebf genes in the developing central nervous system revealed partially overlapping patterns with two salient features, which suggest that Eb f genes may be involved in the control of neuronal differentiation in the CNS and in enforcing regional diversity in populations of post‐mitotic forebrain neurons.
Molecular regionalization of the neocortex is disrupted in Fgf8 hypomorphic mutants
The role of endogenous Fgf8 is demonstrated in regulating early gradients of transcription factors in cortical progenitor cells and in molecular regionalization of the cortical plate in hypomorphic mouse mutants.
Control of the migratory pathway of facial branchiomotor neurones.
It is shown that during their migration, fbm neurones regulate the expression of genes encoding the cell membrane proteins TAG-1, Ret and cadherin 8, and that Ebf1 is involved in the control of these responses.
DLX5 Regulates Development of Peripheral and Central Components of the Olfactory System
The DLX5−/− mutation has a cell-autonomous effect on the ability of neural progenitors to produce olfactory bulb local circuit neurons, with granule cells more severely affected than periglomerular cells.
Microglia modulate wiring of the embryonic forebrain.
It is shown that embryonic microglia, which display a transiently uneven distribution, regulate the wiring of forebrain circuits and reveals roles for immune cells during normal assembly of brain circuits.
Ebf1 controls early cell differentiation in the embryonic striatum.
Ebf1 plays an essential role in the acquisition of mantle cell molecular identity in the developing striatum and provides information on the genetic hierarchies that govern neuronal differentiation in the ventral telencephalon.
