Occluded Mica in Hydroxy-Interlayered Vermiculite Grains from a Highly-Weathered Soil
- W. Harris, A. Morrone, S. E. Coleman
- Chemistry
- 1 February 1992
Hydroxy-interlayered vermiculite (HIV) is a ubiquitous phyllosilicate in the <0.05-mm fraction of sandy soils on the U.S. southeastern coastal plain. Extensive areas of soils with abundant HIV (i.e.,…
Ultrastructural, physiological, and cytochemical characterization of cores in group D streptococci
- S. E. Coleman, A. Bleiweis
- BiologyJournal of Bacteriology
- 1 January 1977
This study has shown that cores are produced in the cells at a reproducible point in early stationary growth after extensive mesosomal formation and after the pH has dropped below 6.5.
Lysis of Grouped and Ungrouped Streptococci by Lysozyme
- S. E. Coleman, I. van de Rijn, A. Bleiweis
- BiologyInfection and Immunity
- 1 November 1970
Variations of three methods of lysing streptococci with lysozyme were compared with respect to the decrease in turbidity and the release of protein and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) effected by each variation and the greatest release of these cytoplasmic constituents from S. faecalis and strain Challis was allowed.
Intergeneric bacterial coaggregations involving mutans streptococci and oral actinomyces
- P. Crowley, W. Fischlschweiger, S. E. Coleman, A. Bleiweis
- BiologyInfection and Immunity
- 1 November 1987
The data indicate that different mechanisms may be involved in each of these coaggregations, as shown by the lack of coaggregation after pretreatment of either cell type with heat or proteases and the presence of a protein mediator on only the streptococcal cell surface.
Rapid plate assay for hydrolytic enzymes of Rhizobium
- N. Saleh-rastin, M. Petersen, S. E. Coleman, D. Hubbell
- Biology
- 1991
This work was initiated as a comparative study that would result in rapid and reproducible assays for the qualitative demonstration of these enzymes in rhizobia.
BACTERIAL L‐FORMS FROM URINARY‐TRACT INFECTIONS IN A VETERANS HOSPITAL POPULATION *
- J. F. Conner, S. E. Coleman, John L. Davis, F. McGaughey
- Medicine
- 1 August 1968
In a study of 115 patients with chronic and acute urinary‐tract infections, 26 (23 per cent) were found to have bacterial L‐forms in the urine which could be cultured in a special hypertonic medium.…
The Streptococcal Cell Wall: Structure, Antigenic Composition, and Reactivity with Lysozyme
- A. Bleiweis, R. Craig, S. E. Coleman, I. van de Rijn
- Biology
- 1 September 1971
The antigenic significance of these carbohydrates is the object of the current research, as will be seen, many oral streptococci possess even more complex cell wall polysaccharides.
Mutanolysin-induced spheroplasts of Streptococcus mutants are true protoplasts
- J. Siegel, S. Hurst, E. Liberman, S. E. Coleman, A. Bleiweis
- BiologyInfection and Immunity
- 1 February 1981
The muralytic enzyme mutanolysin was prepared free of contaminating proteinases and shown to completely dissolve cell walls of this strain and the apparent absence of structural cell wall on the enlarged spherical bodies was revealed.
