Patterns among host plants of potato leafhopper, Empoasca fabae (Homoptera: Cicadellidae).
To compile a host list, to ascertain taxonomic and ecological patterns within the list, and to determine host utilization in non-crop habitats, ecological characteristics of the species suggest that non economic plant species outside of crop systems may be important in its population ecology.
Molecular Differentiation of Alfalfa Weevil Strains (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
Mitochondrial DNA was amplified and sequenced from eastern, western, and Egyptian strains of alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal), and three restriction sites were identified which separated eastern and western haplotypes.
Parasitoids of the Bean Leaf Beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Found in Nebraska Soybean Fields
This is the first report of natural enemies of the bean leaf beetle from Nebraska and may be useful to those developing integrated pest management strategies for the bean Leaf beetle in the future.
Photosynthetic Responses of Alfalfa to Actual and Simulated Alfalfa Weevil (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) Injury
The principal effect of alfalfa weevil defoliation injury on photosynthetic responses of alFalfa was to reduce the amount of photosynthesizing leaf tissue, but not photosynthetics rates.
Effects of Aphid (Homoptera) Abundance and Surrounding Vegetation on the Encounter Rate of Coccinellidae (Coleoptera), Chrysopidae (Neuroptera) and Nabidae (Hemiptera) in Alfalfa.
Predaceous insect encounter rate was measured in 21 southeast Nebraska alfalfa fields through weekly sweep net sampling during 2002–03. The most frequently encountered predaceous insect families we...
Bibliography of the chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus leucopterus (Say) (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) since 1888.
First Report of the Chinch Bug (Heteroptera: Lygaeidae) Egg Parasitoid Eumicrosoma beneficum Gahan (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) in Nebraska
A scelionid wasp, Eumicrosoma beneficum Gahan, was reared from chinch bug, Blissus leucopterus leucaopterus (Say), eggs collected from wheat near Odell, Nebraska, in June 1989, and three-hundred twenty-one of 680 chinch bugs eggs were parasitized by E. beneficum.
Induced Resistance to Bean Leaf Beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in Soybean
Induced resistance in soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill, to the bean leaf beetle, Cerotoma trifurcata (Forster), was investigated in greenhouse experiments using the treatments of mechanical injury...
Effect of the Chemical Inducer Actigard™ in Inducing Resistance to Bean Leaf Beetle, Cerotoma trifurcata (Forster) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), Feeding in Soybean
Induced resistance in soybean was investigated in the greenhouse using different concentrations of the chemical inducer ActigardTM to determine the influence on feeding preference of bean leaf beetle adults, and pair-wise comparisons of leaflets from ActigarTM-treated plants and control plant leaflets demonstrated that Actigards at 25 ppm concentration showed lower preference index (PI) when plants were treated at V1 stage.
Bean Leaf Beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Abundance in Soybean Fields Protected and Unprotected by Shelterbelts
There is a tendency for more bean leaf beetles in shelterbelt-protected soybean fields when differences are found, but beetle numbers were not significantly different between protected and unprotected fields on the majority of sample dates in the two years of this study.
