Results indicate that the difference in euryhalinity of the species studied is related to functional rather than structural differences, and in freshwater adapted fish of both species chloride cells showed similar morphological features.

Results indicate that although sturgeon exhibit some morpho-physiological adjustments to hyperosmotic environments and are able thereby to regulate plasma ions and osmolality in BW at 310 and 640 mOsm.Kg“1, they do not grow as well in BW as they do in FW and, in fact, died when disturbed by heavy activity near the tanks.

In specimens from Sardinia, additional signals after C-banding, Ag-staining and FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) with 18S rDNA can be observed in the telomeric region of one or two large-sized chromosomes, suggesting that additional and variable NORs could be detected in the species in addition to those on the genus-specific, NOR-bearing Chromosome Pair 24.

Acclimation trials of juvenile Italian sturgeon to different salinities : morpho-physiological descriptors
In this study the first experimental trials of acclimation to salinities of the Italian sturgeon Acipenser naccarii are described. Preliminary observations regarding some morphological features of
