Forest composition and structure on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains have been influenced by decades of fire exclusion. Multilayered canopies and high numbers of shade-tolerant true fir trees interact with western spruce budworm to alter forest structure and to affect potential fire behavior and effects. We compared measurements taken in 1992(More)
Severe disturbances to other plant functions resulting from operation of a new all-electric glass melting furnace in a manufacturing plant are discussed. The problem was traced to the thyristor controllers which regulated power to melter electrodes. Investigation showed severe distortion of the plant feeder-voltage waveform due to harmonic currents.(More)
Twenty patients with inoperable arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the brain were treated with neutron radiosurgery. A 50 MeV cyclotron was used to deliver 9 Gy in a single fraction through 7 to 14 isocentric portals. The size and shape of the portals were customized to each treatment site. Nineteen patients have been followed for a median duration of 24(More)
Residual deformity of the femoral head after slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) may be accompanied by a loss of femoral offset and lead to femoro-acetabular impingement (FAI), especially during hip flexion. It is hypothesized that during phases of the gait cycle, when the hip is flexed, the offset-loss is compensated by an increased external rotation.(More)
