We provide anatomic and functional evidence that nicotine induces angiogenesis. We also show that nicotine accelerates the growth of tumor and atheroma in association with increased neovascularization. Nicotine increased endothelial-cell growth and tube formation in vitro, and accelerated fibrovascular growth in vivo. In a mouse model of hind-limb ischemia,(More)
We have studied a pulse sequence using compact imaging gradients for MR angiography by selective inversion recovery. By acquiring signals approaching a half-echo, we achieve significant immunity to artifacts from flow-induced dephasing. Initial clinical results on carotid arteries accurately depict stenoses without the problems of signal dephasing.
In this paper, chloramphenicol was selected as a model drug to prepare in situ gels. The intrinsic dissolution rate of chloramphenicol from in situ gel was evaluated using the surface dissolution imaging system. The results indicated that intrinsic dissolution rate of chloramphenicol thermosensitive in situ gel decreased significantly when the poloxamer(More)
Four highly inducible genes of poplar trees, PtdKTI5, PtdWIN4, PtdPOP3 from hybrid poplar (Populus trichocarpa × P. deltoides) and PtKTI2 from trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) have been individually transformed into Arabidopsis thaliana for overexpression. High transcriptional level of each transgene in transgenic Arabidopsis lines was confirmed(More)
OBJECTIVE To optimize the formulation of immediate release tablet. METHOD The immediate release tablet was prepared by using dry granules. The preparation was optimized by using orthogonal design which took the flow property of granules, the hardness, the disintegrating time and the dissolution rate of the tablet as indices. RESULT The optimized(More)
trans-Ferulic acid (TFA) has antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects, but its poor solubility in water results in unsatisfactory oral bioavailability when administered conventionally at a standard dosage. However, the limited bioavailability of TFA can be overcome by delivering it in nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). In this(More)
Wounding- and herbivore-inducible proteins are potential resources to enhance the resistance to insect pests in transgenic plants. In order to analyze the effects of four such highly inducible genes of Populus, two genes encoding trypsin inhibitors (PtdKTI5 from hybrid poplar, Populus trichocarpa × P. deltoides and PtKTI2 from trembling aspen, Populus(More)
The aim of this work was to establish a method for preparing stable and controllable solid self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SMEDDS) by spherical crystallization technique, which was explored for promoting the dissolution, oral bioavailability, and process efficiency. Solubility test, preparation of liquid self-microemulsifying drug delivery(More)
Oligopeptides, a type of short peptide, which consist of 2-20 amino acids, exhibit a variety of biological functions in drug delivery systems, such as specific targeting, cell penetration, self-assembled capacity and responsiveness to the environment. In this review, we aim to highlight the importance of functional oligopeptides for nanomedical applications(More)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of a natural swelling matrix derived from boat-fruited sterculia seed (SMS) as the propellant of osmotic pump tablets. The sugar components, static swelling, water uptake and viscosity of SMS were determined and compared with that of polythylene oxide (WSR-N10 and WSR-303). Both ribavirin and(More)
