In an experiment performed at the GSI Fragment Sep-arator (FRS) in July 2001, the decay of 45 Fe has been investigated in order to establish whether it proceeds by simultaneous emission of two protons from the ground state, as suggested by theoretical predictions [1, 2], or by conventional β + decay. This extremely neutron-deficient nucleus was produced in… (More)
The Nab collaboration will perform a precise measurement of a, the electron-neutrino correlation parameter, and b, the Fierz interference term in neutron beta decay, in the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the SNS, using a novel electric/magnetic field spectrometer and detector design. The experiment is aiming at the 10 −3 accuracy level in ∆a/a, and… (More)
A systematic study of the population probabilities of microsecond isomers produced following the fragmentation of 208 Pb projectiles at 1 GeV/nucleon has been undertaken at the SIS/FRS facility at GSI Darmstadt. Gamma decays from approximately 20 isomeric states, mainly in the rare-earth and transitional nuclei with Aϳ180, were identified and the… (More)
Two new alpha emitters 109Xe and 105Te were identified through the observation of the 109Xe --> 105Te --> 101Sn alpha-decay chain. The 109Xe nuclei were produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction 54Fe(58Ni,3n)109Xe and studied using the Recoil Mass Spectrometer at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility. Two transitions at Ealpha = 4062 +/- 7 keV and… (More)

We propose to perform a precise measurement of a, the electron-neutrino correlation parameter, and b, the Fierz interference term in neutron beta decay, at the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the SNS, using a novel electric/magnetic field spectrometer and detector design. The experiment is aiming at the 10 −3 accuracy level in a, and will provide an… (More)
The neutron-deficient nucleus 107 Sn has been studied by using the one-neutron knockout reaction. By measuring the decay γ rays and momentum distributions of reaction residues, the spins of the ground, 5/2 + , and first-excited, 7/2 + , states of 107 Sn have been assigned by comparisons to eikonal-model reaction calculations. Limits on the inclusive and… (More)
