A generalization of the von Mises distribution, which is broad enough to cover unimodality as well as multimodality, symmetry as well as asymmetry of circular data, has shown up in different contexts. We study this distribution in some detail here and discuss its many features, some inferential and computational aspects, and we provide some important… (More)

BACKGROUND
Objective response to dacarbazine, the intravenous form of temozolomide (TMZ), in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) is confined to tumors harboring O(6)-methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter hypermethylation. We conducted a phase II study of TMZ enriched by MGMT hypermethylation in archival tumor (AT), exploring dynamic of this… (More)

Saddlepoint approximations of marginal densities and tail probabilities of general nonlinear statistics are derived. They are based on the expansion of the statistic up to the second order. Their accuracy is shown in a variety of examples, including logit and probit models and rank estimators for regression.

This article provides efficient methods based on the saddlepoint approximation for computing the value at risk and the tail value at risk of the doubly compound and perturbed insurer total claim amount. The model is based on a primary counting birth process, for the number of catastrophic events, and on a secondary counting distribution, with possible… (More)

The blood of patients with chronic global respiratory failure and polycythemia exhibits higher viscosity than that of normal subjects. Plasma changes have been excluded as causal factors. The viscosity of whole blood, plasma and blood after correction of hematocrit (Ht; 45%) with autologous plasma, has been determined. The results indicate that in such… (More)

This article provides importance sampling algorithms for computing the probabilities of various types ruin of spectrally negative Lévy risk processes, which are ruin over the infinite time horizon, ruin within a finite time horizon and ruin past a finite time horizon. For the special case of the compound Poisson process perturbed by diffusion, algorithms… (More)
