Cancer therapies based on the inhibition of angiogenesis by endostatin have recently been developed. We demonstrate that a mutated form of human endostatin (P125A) can inhibit the angiogenic switch in the C3(1)/Tag mammary cancer model. P125A has a stronger growth-inhibitory effect on endothelial cell proliferation than wild-type endostatin. We characterize(More)
This paper presents the preliminary results of an ongoing research project investigating the patient appointment scheduling for an outpatient clinic. The outpatient clinic was experiencing three problems of long patient throughput times, a large backlog of appointments, and a high no-show rate. We believe a new scheduling approach called Open Access could(More)
Tibial plateau fractures following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction are extremely rare. This is the first reported case of a tibial plateau fracture following four-strand gracilis-semitendinosus autograft ACL reconstruction. The tibial tunnel alone may behave as a stress riser which can significantly reduce bone strength.
INTRODUCTION We determined the compliance rates of orthopaedic trauma team members in applying universal precautions in major trauma resuscitation scenarios and the availability of universal precautions in accident and emergency (A&E) departments throughout England. MATERIALS AND METHODS A national telephone survey was implemented contacting the first(More)
We aim to determine whether the presence of a drain increases the actual blood transfusion rates in patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). A retrospective review was performed on two consecutive groups of patients who underwent primary TKA: group 1 including 100 patients who underwent TKA and had one deep closed suction drain; group 2(More)
This study examines retrospectively the functional outcome of patients at 5 years following their ankle fracture surgery using the Olerud-Molander Ankle Score (OMAS) and SF-12 questionnaire. Of 69 patients, 43 were females and 26 males. The mean age was 50.7 years. There were 74 and 26% of Weber 'B' and 'C' fractures, respectively. The mean OMAS was 75.2.(More)
The two most common skin incisions in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are the medial parapatellar and midline. As the medial parapatellar incision is predominantly parallel to the Langer's lines of the knee, this may give a better cosmetic appearance. The aim of this study was to assess patient satisfaction of the surgical scar and resulting hypoaesthesia(More)
This paper outlines the process to draft Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) appropriate for undergraduate engineering degree programs at ABET accredited institutions of higher education. In the ECE department at our University, the existing PEOs were deemed to have language that was very similar to that used in the ABET student outcomes. Therefore, it(More)
This paper discusses the set up and delivery of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) projects with critical Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) components as part of “Engage K12 students in ECE”, the outreach and partnership program to (a) inspire K-12 students to pursue careers in ECE disciplines, and (b) integrate K-12 STEM(More)
