This paper deals with main aspects of pathogenesis of urinary tract infection (UTI). Bacterial and host-related factors such as defense mechanisms and predisposing factors are described. Special aspects of UTI in elderly patients and during pregnancy are discussed. Recurrent cystitis and prophylactic measures are also reported.
A novel series of platinum (II) complexes was synthesized and the complexes were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against four human cancer cells lines. Five platinum complexes showed activity against at least one tumor cell line. Primary mucinous adenocarcinoma is an extremely rare type of bladder cancer, with aggressive behavior and poor response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
