Nesting Biology and Foraging Ecology of the Wood-boring Bee Lithurgus chrysurus (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae)
- R. W. Rust, G. Cambon, J. T. Grossa, B. Vaissière
- Environmental Science
- 1 July 2004
To assess the diet breadth of L. chrysurus, pollen analyses were conducted on 8 samples of provisions from 3 nests and 2 feces samples from one nest and results indicate that the bee was strictly oligolectic on Centaurea pollen while nectar was probably collected on other plant species as well.
Pollination in Impatiens capensis and Impatiens pallida (Balsaminaceae).
- R. W. Rust
- Environmental Science
- 1 October 1977
The comparative pollination ecology of sympatric populations of Impatiens capensis and I. pallida is presented and both species share the same principal bee pollinator, Bomnbus vagans, and average over 70% flower-to-seed success as measured over the flowering season.
A Phylogenetic Analysis of Nesting Behavior in the Genus Osmia (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae)
- J. Bosch, Y. Maeta, R. W. Rust
- Biology
- 1 July 2001
Cladistic analysis is used to study the evolution of 29 biological characters related to nesting behavior, nest provisioning, oviposition, cocoon spinning, defecation, and life cycle in 11 species of Osmia bees and two outgroup genera.

Spatial and temporal heterogeneity of pollen foraging in Osmia lignaria propinqua (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae).
- R. W. Rust
- Environmental Science
- 1 April 1990
Pollen analysis from nest provisions of two populations of Osmia lignaria propinqua Cresson from the same valley over a 2-yr period showed a seasonal pattern beginning with willow, Salix spp.…
Pollinator biodiversity and floral resource use in Ecballium elaterium (Cucurbitaceae), a Mediterranean endemic
- R. W. Rust, B. Vaissière, P. Westrich
- Biology
- 2003
Pollinator biodiversity on Ecballium elaterium (L.) A. Richard was studied for 2 years at 2 sites in southern France. Six families, 15 genera, and 43 species of bees were collected from the flowers,…
Seed Production and Seedling Establishment in the Mayapple, Podophyllum peltatum L.
- R. W. Rust, R. R. Roth
- Biology
- 1981
The negative exponential model for seedling mortality best describes the mayapple and predicts a reduction of the initial seed crop to one plant by the 5th year.
