A worldwide phylogenetic classification of the Poaceae (Gramineae)
- R. Soreng, P. Peterson, O. Morrone
- Biology
- 1 March 2015
Based on recent molecular and morphological studies, this work presents a modern worldwide phylogenetic classification of the 771 grass genera and divides them into 12 subfamilies.
A worldwide phylogenetic classification of the Poaceae (Gramineae) II: An update and a comparison of two 2015 classifications
- R. Soreng, P. Peterson, F. Zuloaga
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 1 July 2017
A new worldwide phylogenetic classification of 11 506 grass species in 768 genera, 12 subfamilies, seven supert tribes, 52 tribes, five supersubtribes, and 90 subtribes is presented and a radial tree illustrating the hierarchical relationships among the subtribes, tribes, and subfam families is included.
Phylogeny and subfamilial classification of the grasses (Poaceae)
- N. Barker, L. Clark, R. Spangler
- Biology
- 22 January 2001
A large collaborative effort has yiel(led a comprehensive study of the phylogeny and a new suhfanilial classification of the grass family (Poaceae/Graminieae) and 1 new subfamily (Danthonioideae) is proposed.

These inversions provide a nested set of phylogenetic characters, indicating a hierarchy of relationships in the grasses and allies, with Joinvilleaceae identified as the likely sister group to the Poaceae.
Phylogenetics and character evolution in the grass family (Poaceae): Simultaneous analysis of morphological and Chloroplast DNA restriction site character sets
- R. Soreng, Jerrold I. Davis
- BiologyThe Botanical review
- 2008
A phylogenetic analysis of the grass family (Poaceae) was conducted using two character sets, one representing variation in 364 mapped and cladistically informative restriction sites from all regions…

- Biology
- 1 February 2012
The phylogenetic hypothesis supports the recognition of the following genera and groups and monophyly of Phaenospermateae including Duthieinae is demonstrated, and its inclusion within or treatment as sister to Stipeae is rejected.
A PRELIMINARY PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF THE GRASS SUBFAMILY POOIDEAE (POACEAE), WITH ATTENTION TO STRUCTURAL FEATURES OF THE PLASTID AND NUCLEAR GENOMES, INCLUDING AN INTRON LOSS IN GBSSI
- Jerrold I. Davis, R. Soreng
- Biology
- 2007
The results support a novel set of relationships among Ihe tribes of Pooideae, including the placement of Brachypodieae, Bromeae, Triticeae, and Poeae s.l. within a clade for which a three-nucleotide inversion in ndhF is interpreted as a synapomorphy.
