Mosses of the Mediterranean, an Annotated Checklist
Abstract The names of all mosses published up to the end of August 2011 in the countries of the Mediterranean basin, the Macaronesian Islands and Bulgaria are compiled in an annotated checklist. The…
Hepatics and Anthocerotes of the Mediterranean, an annotated checklist
The names of all hepatics and anthocerotes published to the end of may 2007 in the Mediterranean countries and Bulgaria are compiled in an annotated checklist list. The list comprises accepted names…
Molecular phylogeny of Trichostomoideae (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta) based on nrITS sequence data
Bayesian analysis of an alignment of 83 nrITS sequences belonging to 66 taxa of Pottiaceae revealed representatives of subfamily Trichostomoideae in a well supported monophyletic lineage, including species of Tortella and Weissia, respectively.
Molecular phylogeny of Pottiaceae (Musci) based on chloroplast rps4 sequence data
Comparative sequencing of the chloroplast rps4 gene was used to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships within the family Pottiaceae (Musci). The results confirm that Ephemerum spinulosum,…
Intercontinental Mediterranean disjunct mosses: morphological and molecular patterns.
Despite some evidence for differentiation between disjunct plants, no plausible mutation rate would date the divergence at ≥20 million years ago (MYA), as implied by the Madrean-Tethyan hypothesis, and recent long-distance dispersal is a more likely explanation for intercontinental disjunctions in these species.
Bryophyte checklist of Northern Africa
Abstract A bryophyte checklist of Northern Africa has been compiled based on the published literature. On the basis of this catalogue 5 hornworts, 171 liverworts and 706 mosses are reported for the…

The phylogenetic distribution of the inversion in the gene order supports a hypothesis only weakly supported by inferences from sequence data whereby Funariales are paraphyletic, with Funariaceae and Disceliaceae sharing a common ancestor with Encalyptales, and Gigaspermaceae sister to this combined clade.
Contribution to the bryophyte flora of Morocco: the Jbel Toubkal
The bryophyte flora of the Jbel Toubkal, included in the Toukbal National Park (Morocco), is catalogued and nine species are new for Africa, of which three are newly reported for northern Africa.
Gypsiferous outcrops in SE Spain, refuges of rare, vulnerable and endangered bryophytes and lichens
After studying the bryophyte and lichen flora of the gypsiferous outcrops of SE Spain, it is becoming clear that these sites are important as a refuge for rare, vulnerable and endangered species.…
New Taxonomic Data on a Circum-Tethyan Group of Syntrichia (Pottiaceae, Bryophyta): the S. caninervis Complex
New taxonomic data are presented from a revision of the Syntrichia caninervis complex, based on morphological characters of about 180 samples, and seven taxa have been recognized.
