The ultrastructural morphology of air embolism: platelet adhesion to the interface and endothelial damage.
Changes in the pathogenesis of the ill effects following air embolism cannot be attributed solely to the space occupying and surface tension effects of the air bubbles altering the normal flow of blood through the vasculature, but alterations would account for certain features of decompression sickness, such as the drop in platelets, even when the mechanical blockage by air bubbles was not of great significance. Expand
Serotonin and other vasoactive agents in experimental decompression sickness.
None of the substances in the dosage schedules used altered the incidence of bends, but serotonin markedly increased the severity, which is interesting in view of recent observations from this laboratory on the role of platelets in decompression sickness. Expand
Rapid and sensitive determination of acetylsalicylic acid and its metabolites using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.
A rapid and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatographic technique was developed for the simultaneous determination of gentisic acid, salicyluric Acid, acetylsalicylic Acid and salicylic acid in plasma and serum and tested in both human and animal models given a single dose. Expand
Herbal Remedies: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
In this article, problems associated with specific herbals including those with serious toxicity such as ephedra, borage, coltsfoot and calamus, as well as those with demonstrated interactions with conventional drugs such as St. John's wort are reviewed. Expand
Wind Turbines and Health
A study of three UK wind farms also supports this conclusion, finding that sound associated with modern wind turbines is not a source which will result in noise levels which may be injurious to theExpand
