Climate Change and the Future of California's Endemic Flora
- S. Loarie, Benjamin E. Carter, D. Ackerly
- Environmental SciencePLoS ONE
- 25 June 2008
The flora of California, a global biodiversity hotspot, includes 2387 endemic plant taxa and it is projected that up to 66% will experience >80% reductions in range size within a century, comparable with other studies of fewer species or just samples of a region's endemics.
Sea ice microbial communities. VI. Growth and primary production in bottom ice under graded snow cover
- S. Grossi, S. Kottmeier, R. Moe, G. Taylor, C. Sullivan
- Environmental Science
- 1987
The effect of under-ice irradiance on in situ growth and producbon of sea ice microalgae was investigated at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica in 1982. Five 100 m2 quadrats on annual ice were delimited in…

The Influence of Light on Growth and Development of the Sea-Ice Microbial Community of McMurdo Sound
- C. Sullivan, A. Palmisano, S. Kottmeier, S. Grossi, R. Moe
- Environmental Science
- 1985
Microbial production in the Southern Ocean is not limited to benthic and planktonic habitats. The annual sea-ice provides a growth substratum and refugium for a complex microbial community composed…
Catalogue of the Benthic Marine Algae of the Indian Ocean
- P. Basson, Paul C. Silva, R. Moe
- Environmental Science
- 22 September 1996
This catalogue, which integrates nearly 35,000 records of benthic marine algae from the Indian Ocean into a taxonomic classification comprising 3,355 specific and infraspecific taxa in 629 genera,…
Sea ice microbial communities. VII. Changes in under-ice spectral irradiance during the development of Antarctic sea ice microalgal communities
- A. Palmisano, J. Soohoo, R. Moe, C. Sullivan
- Environmental Science
- 1987
Changes in spectral irrad~ance beneath annual sea ice were measured during the development of sea ice microalgal communities in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, and a simple model of factors determining changes in ice algal biomass is described.
The intertidal marine lichen formed by the pyrenomycete fungus Verrucaria tavaresiae (Ascomycotina) and the brown alga Petroderma maculiforme (Phaeophyceae): thallus organization and symbiont…
- W. B. Sanders, R. Moe, C. Ascaso
- Biology, Environmental ScienceAmerican-Eurasian journal of botany
- 1 April 2004
Despite the exceptional nature of the phycobiont involved, the Verrucaria tavaresiae-Petroderma maculiforme symbiosis unequivocally fits the prevailing concept of a lichen.
Antarctic Marine Flora: Uniquely Devoid of Kelps
- R. Moe, P. C. Silva
- Environmental ScienceScience
- 10 June 1977
The discovery of embryonic stages of the common large Antarctic brown seaweed Himantothallus has led to the conclusion that this plant, hitherto assigned equivocally to the Laminariales (kelps), is a…
