The biodiversity of helminth parasites in South American amphibians is documented to identify gaps in the authors' knowledge, which in turn may guide subsequent studies.

The data indicate that, in sympatric species of amphibians, the morphological and behavioural characteristics of the hosts are important for structuring the helminth parasite communities.
Parasitic infections of Piaractus mesopotamicus and hybrid (P. mesopotamicus x Piaractus brachypomus) cultured in Brazil.

Assessment of parasitic infections in the "pacu" fish and the "patinga" hybrid in the northwest of São Paulo State, Brazil found that appropriate fish handling, in conjunction with monitoring of water quality, can reduce the stress to which the farmed fish are exposed and is essential for pathogen control.
Description of three new species of Hepatozoon (Apicomplexa, Hepatozoidae) from Rattlesnakes (Crotalus durissus terrificus) based on molecular, morphometric and morphologic characters.

It is hypothesized that the metacercariae larval stage of the parasite has a low specificity for the second intermediate host (fish) and the majority of fish species infected in Brazil belong to the Loricariidae and Cichlidae families.
How Many Parasites Species a Frog Might Have? Determinants of Parasite Diversity in South American Anurans

It is concluded that specialist parasites are more likely to be associated with large anurans, which are the ones harbouring higher PSR, and that the lack of association of PSR with hosts’ clade diversification suggests it is strongly influenced by ecological and contemporary constrains.

- M. Müller, D. H. Morais, Guilherme J. Costa-Silva, A. Aguiar, R. W. Ávila, R. J. da Silva
- BiologyZoologica Scripta

Results suggest evidence for host–parasite cophylogeny in the R. pseudosphaerocephala complex and dispersal events among their populations, and supported the monophyly of Rhabdiasidae and improved the resolution of main clades.

It was observed that in vivo treatment with BjV induced tumor growth inhibition, increased animal survival time, decreased mortality, increased the influx of polymorphonuclear leukocytes on the early stages of tumor growth, and did not affect the mononuclear cells number.
