Feeding ecology of the Brazilian silverside Atherinella brasiliensis (Atherinopsidae) in a sub-tropical estuarine ecosystem
Diet composition varied largely and significantly with respect to habitat, season, and body size, and a closer assessment showed that habitat and season had a stronger effect on diet than fish size. Expand
Fish assemblage structure in an estuary of the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot (southern Brazil)
Assessment of seasonal and spatial effects of abiotic environmental attributes on the fish assemblage structure confirmed that each estuarine zone supports a year-round persistent and relatively homogeneous fish species assemblages. Expand
Size-related shifts in dietary composition of Centropomus parallelus (Perciformes: Centropomidae) in an estuarine ecosystem of the southeastern coast of Brazil
Results reveal that C. parallelus is a carnivorous species feeding mainly on benthic crustaceans, and the digestive tube is short and grows isometrically, which is in accordance with the carnivorous habit of this estuarine fish and its maintenance through ontogeny. Expand
Analysis of fish assemblages in sectors along a salinity gradient based on species, families and functional groups
The fish assemblages along the estuarine salinity gradient were found to be better characterized by taxonomic metrics than by functional ones, which is most likely because individuals of all functional groups inhabit all salinity sectors, and thus these metrics are not useful for differentiating assemblage along salinity gradients. A new record of the non-native fish species Butis koilomatodon (Bleeker 1849) (Teleostei: Eleotridae) for southeastern Brazil
Neste trabalho, reportamos o segundo registro do peixe invasor, Butis koilomatodon , na costa de Sao Paulo (Sudeste do Brasil), o que representa, tambem, o registro mais ao sul no sudoeste do OceanoExpand
Fishes of Paranaguá Estuarine Complex, South West Atlantic
The objective of this work was to present an updated checklist of the currently known fishes in the Paranagua Estuarine Complex (PEC) and provides comments on conservation status for the treatedExpand
Feeding ecology of the American freshwater goby Ctenogobius shufeldti (Gobiidae, Perciformes) in a sub-tropical estuary.
The feeding ecology of the American freshwater goby Ctenogobius shufeldti in a low salinity salt-marsh habitat in the Paranaguá Bay estuarine complex (Brazil) was assessed through the gut analysis of 632 individuals as expected for a typical generalized, opportunistic omnivorous feeder. Expand
Checklist of the fish fauna of the Araçá Bay, São Sebastião Channel, northern coast of São Paulo, Brazil
This paper presents for the first time a checklist of the fish fauna of Araca Bay, Sao Sebastiao Channel, northern coast of Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Fishes were sampled in five surveys from OctoberExpand
Ichthyofauna of the inner shelf of Paraná, Brazil: checklist, geographic distribution, economic importance and conservation status
Comprehensive species checklists are essential to effectively implementing preservation and recovery measures, and should assess conservation status, vulnerability degree and anthropogenic threats.Expand
