Biological aspects of the nonindigenous portunid crab Charybdis hellerii in the western tropical South Atlantic
TLDR
The studied population, characterized by moderate densities of adult, juvenile and ovigerous female specimens, and the temporal and spatial sampling along the western Atlantic, principally along the Brazilian coast, confirm the hypothesis that C. hellerii is well established in this area, and has arrived in recent times.
EGG PRODUCTION STRATEGIES OF THE TROPICAL HERMIT CRAB PAGURISTES TORTUGAE FROM BRAZIL
TLDR
The results showed continuous and elevated reproduction of P. tortugae, with a high reproductive potential for the population, and the pattern of the frequency distribution of ovigerous females tending to bimodality may be characteristic of a population with a two-year life cycle.
Population dynamics of the hermit crab Paguristes erythrops (Diogenidae) from Anchieta Island, southern Brazil
TLDR
The absence of ovigerous females during winter months and their high incidence from January to March indicated discontinuity in the reproductive cycle, suggesting that females become Ovigerous and breed in the summer, with the spawning period lasting from spring to autumn.
Shell selection by the tropical hermit crab Calcinus tibicen (Herbst, 1791) (Anomura, Diogenidae) from Southern Brazil
TLDR
It is concluded that shell selection by hermit crabs involves individual and sexual preferences taking into account the shell features that best provide protection and survival, principally in the rocky intertidal studied area, characterized by intense wave action.
Reproductive Potential of the Hermit Crab Calcinus tibicen (Anomura) from Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil@@@Reproductive Potential of the Hermit Crab Calcinus tibicen (Anomura) from Ubatuba, Sao Paulo,
TLDR
Shell type can influence the reproductive potential of ovigerous females, but not to the point of interrupting it, as shown in the example of Culcinus tibicen.
Reproductive Potential of the Hermit Crab Calcinus Tibicen (Anomura) From Ubatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil
TLDR
Shell type can influence the reproductive potential of ovigerous females, but not to the point of interrupting it, as shown in the case of Calcinus tibicen.
Biological aspects of Mithraculus forceps (Brachyura: Mithracidae) from Anchieta Island, Ubatuba, Brazil
TLDR
The pattern observed for the M. forceps population in Anchieta Island indicated the strategy favoured by environmental characteristics of the island and by coexistence with other decapod crustaceans in the studied area.
Hermit Crab Fauna from the Infralittoral Zone of Anchieta Island (Ubatuba, Brazil)
The checklist and biological aspects of hermit crab communities living on the infralittoral rocky bottom (Anchieta Island, Ubatuba) were studied through monthly samplings from January to December
On a record of Dardanus venosus (H. Milne Edwards) (Crustacea, Anomura) from the São Paulo State, Brazil
TLDR
The present work is the first report of Dardanus venosus in Sao Paulo State and extends the range of this species in the western Atlantic farther to the south in the Brazilian region.
