Untreated myxedema occurred with bilateral pleural effusions. There are 13 previous cases reported in the literature. This unusual finding may be the most obvious manifestation of hypothyroidism, and this association can be an important clue in diagnosing an unexplained pleural effusion.
OBJECTIVE To report two cases of resistance to thyroid hormone and to promote increased awareness of this syndrome, which is frequently misdiagnosed and incorrectly treated.
