Optical telecommunication employs light pulses travelling down optical fibres; in a binary format logical Ones and Zeroes are represented by the presence or absence of a light pulse in a given time slot, respectively. The fibre's data-carrying capacity must keep up with increasing demand, but for binary coding it now approaches its limit. Alternative coding… (More)
An experimental method to find bound states of dispersion managed solitons is presented. The pulse parameters are optimized with a genetic algorithm in a closed loop. Numerical tests of the method have already been successful.
Two types of fiber-optic soliton pairs in the presence of Raman self-frequency shift were predicted recently. We report experimental observation of one of these types and obtain good quantitative agreement.
