This study tests the reliability and validity of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) head and neck cancer module (QLQ-H&N35) and version 3.0 of the EORTC Core Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) in 622 head and neck cancer patients from 12 countries. The patients completed the QLQ-C30, the QLQ-H&N35 and a debriefing questionnaire(More)
The effects of liver disease on caffeine plasma clearance (Cl) and on exhalation of 14CO2 following i.v. injection of 2 mu Ci of [3-methyl-14C]caffeine together with 125 mg of the unlabeled compound were measured in 15 patients with cirrhosis, 11 subjects with miscellaneous liver disease, and 10 normal volunteers. Compared to mean values for Cl (2.02 +/-(More)
A procedure is described for the rapid assessment of cataleptic activity (loss of righting, without head-drop and without eye closure) of phencyclidine-type drugs. Single- and cumulative-dosing procedures with phencyclidine and ketamine produced similar results. Pentobarbital produced loss of righting at doses which also induced head-drop and eye closure.(More)
PURPOSE In this study factors are analyzed that may potentially influence the site of failure in pediatric medulloblastoma. Patient-related, disease-related, and treatment-related variables are analyzed with a special focus on radiotherapy time-dose and technical factors. METHODS AND MATERIALS Eighty-six children and adolescents with a diagnosis of(More)
Edema and hand strength measurements are useful for the recovery assessment of patients with a hand lesion. This work determined and compared estimates of hand volume, grip strengths (measured with a Jamar and a Collins dynamometer), and pinch strength (with a Jamar pinch gauge) in terms of sex and age with or without anthropometric indices in healthy(More)
In this paper we describe the synthesis, structure-activity relationship (SAR), and biochemical characterization of N-(4-phenylthiazol-2-yl)benzenesulfonamides as inhibitors of kynurenine 3-hydroxylase. The compounds 3,4-dimethoxy-N-[4-(3-nitrophenyl)thiazol-2-yl]benzenesulfonamide 16 (IC50 = 37 nM, Ro-61-8048) and(More)
Triazolam was used to study the plasma concentration-effect relationship of a benzodiazepine because it has a very short plasma t1/2. A standard hypnotic dose of 0.25 mg was given by mouth to six healthy subjects, and blood samples were drawn when the subjects had to perform a battery of psychologic tests. Only the digit-symbol substitution test, the(More)
Forty-three patients with inoperable or recurring malignant gliomas, and 30 patients with multiple recurring brain metastases were treated with a combination of Adriamycin (45 mg/m2) and 4-dimethyl-epipodophyllotoxin D-thenylidene (VM 26) (60 mg/m2 for 2 days) with 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea (CCNU) (60 mg/m2 for 2 days). These cycles of(More)
The disposition of zomepirac was investigated in 18 patients with various liver diseases and in 10 healthy normal subjects in order to further test the hypothesis that glucuronidation of drugs may be spared in liver disease. Severity of the liver disease was assessed by the galactose elimination capacity. Following oral administration of zomepirac (200 mg),(More)
