Ovarian cancer takes a fourth place as cause of death from all cancers and a first place from gynecologic malignancies in Poland. Up to now, relatively little is known about immunohistochemical markers accepted as prognostic indicators for ovarian cancers. Recent investigations took a note of prognostic significance of catenin-cadherin adhesion complex and(More)
Inactivation of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes is involved in carcinogenesis of sporadic and inherited human cancers. Mutations in MMR genes are associated with the loss of immunoexpression of hMLH1 and hMSH2 and may play a role in the mechanism of carcinogenesis of ovarian tumours. The aim of the study was to evaluate the immunoexpression of hMLH1 and(More)
YKL-40 is a glycoprotein secreted by numerous human cells, such as cartilage, synovial, and endothelial cells. The biological role of YKL-40 has not yet been fully unveiled, however, its participation is perceived in angiogenesis, growth, proliferation, differentiation, and remodeling processes. The primary goal of our study was to evaluate possible(More)
AIM OF THE STUDY Recent investigations have taken into account the role of mast cells in prostate cancer formation, analyzing their dual functions (as tumour growth promoters and tumour growth inhibitors). The aim of our study was to compare mast cell infiltration and microvessel density in prostate cancer and in benign prostate hyperplasia. We also(More)
Ovarian cancer is one of the most important causes of death from gynecological malignancies in Poland. Recent investigations took a note of possible relationship between tumor histological grading and immunoexpression of apoptosis and proliferation related proteins in serous ovarian cancers. The aim of the study was to assess the immunoexpression of CAS(More)
OBJECTIVES The goal of our study was the clinical and pathological characteristics of the monochorionic diamniotic twin gestations complicated by the intrauterine death of one fetus during the first trimester. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study is a prospective review of 9 monochorionic diamniotic twin gestations involving the intrauterine death of one fetus(More)
The role of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) antigens in driving a specific immune response against the bacteria causing gastroduodenal disorders is poorly understood. Using a guinea pig model mimicking the natural history of H. pylori infection, we evaluated the effectiveness of immature and mature macrophages in promoting the blastogenesis of splenocytes(More)
We present the first case of a patient with a synchronic occurrence of three neoplasms: non-small cell lung cancer serous cancer of the ovary and carcinosarcoma of the colon. Moreover, the possible origin of the carcinosarcoma is an endometriotic focus, which is an extremely rare occurrence, especially in women with no history of endometriotic treatment.(More)
