Modern chemotherapy is interested in developing new agents with high efficiency of treatment in low-dose medication strategies, lower side toxicity and stronger specificity to the tumor cells. Vanadocene dichloride (VDC) belongs to the group of the most promising metallocene antitumor agents; however, its mechanism of action and cytotoxicity profile are not(More)
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was found to suppress the phagocytic activity of the blood monocytes and neutrophils in vitro. The amounts of AFP detectable by immunofluorescence in the livers of nu/nu, nu/+ and +/+ mice were quite comparable, and thus could not have been responsible for the alterations in phagocytosis found in leukocytes of athymic nude mice(More)
Ouabain enhances a modulation effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the expression of MHC class II antigens. A similar but lesser effect than that of ouabain, which increases intracellular concentration of sodium ions, has been observed when treating cells with ionophores quercetin which increases [Ca2+]i or valinomycin which increases [K+]i. These findings(More)
BACKGROUND Many people believe in favourable effects of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs; valine, leucine, and isoleucine), especially leucine, on muscle protein balance and consume BCAAs for many years. We determined the effects of the chronic intake of a BCAA- or leucine-enriched diet on protein and amino acid metabolism in fed and postabsorptive states.(More)
This study describes the effects of cytokine peptides released into the supernatant during an early allogeneic reaction (AR) of mouse spleen lymphocytes or brain cortex cells which differ in their major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The peptides were isolated by ultrafiltration, liquid chromatography and HPLC. We found that both peptides stimulated the(More)
Phenylbutyrate (PB) acts as chemical chaperone and histone deacetylase inhibitor, which is used to decrease ammonia in urea cycle disorders and has been investigated for use in the treatment of a number of lethal illnesses. We performed in vivo and in vitro experiments to examine the effects of PB on glutamine (GLN), branched-chain amino acid (BCAA; valine,(More)
A new and relatively simple method for purification of betulin from birch bark extract was developed in this study. Its five purification steps are based on the differential solubility of extract components in various solvents and their crystallization and/or precipitation, on their affinity for Ca(OH)2 in ethanol, and on the affinity of some impurities for(More)
Monoclonal mouse anti-pig transferrin antibodies PTF-01, PTF-02 and PTF-03 and anti-human transferrin antibody HTF-14 detect transferrin coupled with Sepharose particles in an indirect immunofluorescence test. Only the PTF-03 antibody can be used for immunofluorescence detection of pig transferrin bound to specific receptors on the plasma membrane. The(More)
Placentomata of sheep immunized with human serum albumin (HSA) were examined. Both HSA and immunoglobulins were found in the maternal part and maternofetal border of the placenta using FITC labelled antisera on paraffin sections. Radiolabelled HSA was also detected in the fetal blood. The ultrastructure of placentomata revealed immunopathological process.
