The IGFBP proteases were first described in pregnancy serum as a proteolytic activity against IGFBP-3. Since then, IGFBP proteases have been described in many other clinical situations, in various body fluids, and have been shown to cleave IGFBP-2 to -6 with varying specificity. The molecular nature of some of these proteases is being unraveled and three(More)
Proteins in sonic extracts of Streptococcus lactis were separated by starch-gel electrophoresis at high voltage. Each slab was sliced longitudinally, and half was stained for peptidases in a mixture containing a peptide, L-amino acid oxidase (snake venom), peroxidase, and o-dianisdine; the other half was stained in amido black for protein. In addition to(More)
Seventy-eight severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice were administered intraperitoneally 1 x 10(7) to 9 x 10(7) human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBL) in five experiments. Human immunoglobulin G (IgG) was detected in 70 to 88% of these SCID-PBL-Hu mice after cell transplantation, and all four subclasses were present. The total concentration of(More)
A procedure is described for the determination of the lipolytic activity in milk using tributyrate as substrate. The method is based on the titration of liberated butyric acid in a diethyl ether: light petroleum (2-75:1, v/v) extract of the incubation mixture. Some of the fundamental factors involved in the procedure are discussed.
The lipoprotein lipase and tributyrate hydrolysing activities were found to be similarly distributed in the fractions obtained when whole milk was separated into skim-milk and cream, and when the cream was washed and freed from lipid. These enzyme activities in skim-milks and in extracts of lipid-free cream could not be separated by affinity chromatography(More)
BACKGROUND Heterozygous loss-of-function mutations in the natriuretic peptide receptor B gene (NPR2) are responsible for short stature in patients without a distinct phenotype. Some of these patients have been treated with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy with a variable response. CASE PRESENTATION The proband was a healthy boy who(More)
