A 17-year-old boy with partial hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase deficiency developed a hypersensitivity reaction to allopurinol. The reaction was manifested by the development of bizarre, atypical seizures. The patient had been neurologically normal prior to the reaction.
