A continuum from clear to cloudy hot-Jupiter exoplanets without primordial water depletion
- D. Sing, J. Fortney, P. Wilson
- Physics, GeologyNature
- 14 December 2015
The difference between the planetary radius measured at optical and infrared wavelengths is an effective metric for distinguishing different atmosphere types, so that strong water absorption lines are seen in clear-atmosphere planets and the weakest features are associated with clouds and hazes.
The VAST Survey - III. The multiplicity of A-type stars within 75 pc
- R. D. Rosa, J. Patience, O. Lai
- Physics
- 27 November 2013
With a combination of adaptive optics imaging and a multi-epoch common proper motion search, we have conducted a large volume-limited (D 6 75 pc) multiplicity survey of A- type stars, sensitive to…
HST hot-Jupiter transmission spectral survey: evidence for aerosols and lack of TiO in the atmosphere of WASP-12b
- D. Sing, A. D. Etangs, K. Zahnle
- Physics, Geology
- 20 September 2013
We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST) optical transmission spectra of the transiting hot-Jupiter WASP-12b, taken with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph instrument. The resulting spectra…
GTC OSIRIS transiting exoplanet atmospheric survey: detection of sodium in XO-2b from differential long-slit spectroscopy†
- D. Sing, C. Huitson, A. Vidal-Madjar
- Physics, Geology
- 24 August 2012
We present two transits of the hot-Jupiter exoplanet XO-2b using the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). The time series observations were performed using long-slit spectroscopy of XO-2 and a nearby…
Hubble Space Telescope hot Jupiter transmission spectral survey: a detection of Na and strong optical absorption in HAT-P-1b
- N. Nikolov, D. Sing, K. Zahnle
- Physics, Geology
- 30 September 2013
We present an optical to near-infrared transmission spectrum of the hot Jupiter HAT-P-1b, based on Hubble Space Telescope observations, covering the spectral regime from 0.29 to 1.027 μm with Space…
An HST optical-to-near-IR transmission spectrum of the hot Jupiter WASP-19b: detection of atmospheric water and likely absence of TiO
- C. Huitson, D. Sing, K. Zahnle
- Physics, Geology
- 8 July 2013
We measure the transmission spectrum of WASP-19b from three transits using low-resolution optical spectroscopy from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS). The…
The spin-orbit angles of the transiting exoplanets WASP-1b, WASP-24b, WASP-38b and HAT-P-8b from Rossiter-McLaughlin observations
- E. Simpson, D. Pollacco, U. Exeter
- Geology, Physics
- 25 November 2010
We present observations of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect for the transiting exoplanet systems WASP-1, WASP-24, WASP-38 and HAT-P-8, and deduce the orientations of the planetary orbits with respect…
Evidence for an additional planet in the β Pictoris system
- A. Lagrange, N. Meunier, F. Schmider
- Physics, GeologyNature Astronomy
- 1 December 2019
With its imaged debris disk of dust, its evaporating exocomets, and an imaged giant planet, the young (~23 Myr) β Pictoris system is a unique proxy for detailed studies of planet formation processes…
The SOPHIE search for northern extrasolar planets
- M. Hobson, X. Delfosse, P. Wilson
- Physics, GeologyAstronomy & Astrophysics
- 28 June 2018
Aims. Since 2011, the SOPHIE spectrograph has been used to search for Neptunes and super-Earths in the northern hemisphere. As part of this observational program, 290 radial velocity measurements of…

- P. Wilson, A. Rajan, J. Patience
- Physics
- 17 April 2014
Using SofI on the 3.5m New Technology Telescope, we have conducted an extensive near-infrared monitoring survey of an unbiased sample of 69 brown dwarfs spanning the L0 and T8 spectral range, with at…
