Discrepancies in bone mineral density and fracture risk in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes—a meta-analysis
- P. Vestergaard
- MedicineOsteoporosis International
- 28 February 2007
A meta-regression showed that body mass index (BMI) was a major determinant for BMD in both the spine and hip and the increase in fracture risk in T1D and T2D was increased and BMD lower in patients with complications to diabetes.
Relative fracture risk in patients with diabetes mellitus, and the impact of insulin and oral antidiabetic medication on relative fracture risk
- P. Vestergaard, L. Rejnmark, L. Mosekilde
- MedicineDiabetologia
- 21 May 2005
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are associated with an increased risk of any fracture and hip fractures, and the use of drugs to control diabetes may reduce the association between diabetes and fractures.
Increased mortality in patients with a hip fracture-effect of pre-morbid conditions and post-fracture complications
- P. Vestergaard, L. Rejnmark, L. Mosekilde
- MedicineOsteoporosis International
- 14 June 2007
Patients with a hip fracture have a pronounced excess mortality risk and the main cause was linked to the trauma that caused the fracture event and not to pre-existing co-morbidity.
Proton Pump Inhibitors, Histamine H2 Receptor Antagonists, and Other Antacid Medications and the Risk of Fracture
- P. Vestergaard, L. Rejnmark, L. Mosekilde
- MedicineCalcified Tissue International
- 15 August 2006
Proton pump inhibitors appeared to be associated with a limited increase in fracture risk, in contrast to histamine H2 antagonists, which seemed to beassociated with a small decrease in fracturerisk.
Smoking and thyroid disorders--a meta-analysis.
- P. Vestergaard
- Medicine, BiologyEuropean Journal of Endocrinology
- 1 February 2002
Cessation of smoking seems associated with a lower risk of Graves' disease than current smoking, and smoking cessation may lead to a decrease in morbidity from Graves’ disease, especially in women.
Global vitamin D levels in relation to age, gender, skin pigmentation and latitude: an ecologic meta-regression analysis
- T. Hagenau, R. Vest, P. Vestergaard
- MedicineOsteoporosis International
- 2008
A widespread global vitamin D insufficiency was present compared with proposed threshold levels, and serum 25(OH)D levels were higher in subjects aged aged >15 years than in younger subjects.
Fracture Risk Associated with Use of Antiepileptic Drugs
- P. Vestergaard, L. Rejnmark, L. Mosekilde
- PsychologyEpilepsia
- 1 November 2004
To assess fracture risk associated with different antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and the effects of newer AEDs, an increased fracture risk has been reported in patients with epilepsy.
Plasma concentrations of 25-Hydroxy-Vitamin D and 1,25-Dihydroxy-Vitamin D are Related to the Phenotype of Gc (Vitamin D-Binding Protein): A Cross-sectional Study on 595 Early Postmenopausal Women
- A. L. Lauridsen, P. Vestergaard, E. Nexo
- Biology, MedicineCalcified Tissue International
- 5 May 2005
The major transporter of vitamin D metabolites in the circulation is the multifunctional plasma protein Gc, also known as group-specific component, Gc globulin, vitamin D–binding protein, or DBP.…
Vitamin D status, seasonal variations, parathyroid adenoma weight and bone mineral density in primary hyperparathyroidism
- B. Moosgaard, P. Vestergaard, L. Heickendorff, F. Melsen, P. Christiansen, L. Mosekilde
- MedicineClinical Endocrinology
- 1 November 2005
Primary hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D insufficiency are common conditions that can occur in combination, but low plasma 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) may also enhance the risk of PHPT or modify disease severity.
Discriminative power of three indices of renal calcium excretion for the distinction between familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia and primary hyperparathyroidism: a follow‐up study on methods
- S. E. Christensen, P. Nissen, P. Vestergaard, L. Heickendorff, K. Brixen, L. Mosekilde
- MedicineClinical Endocrinology
- 1 November 2008
Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia must be differentiated from primary hyperparathyroidism because prognosis and treatment differ and the diagnostic performance of these variables is poorly documented.
