Association between the PNPLA3 (rs738409 C>G) variant and hepatocellular carcinoma: Evidence from a meta‐analysis of individual participant data
TLDR
The results suggest that rs738409 exerts a marked influence on hepatocarcinogenesis in patients with cirrhosis of European descent and provide a strong argument for performing further mechanistic studies to better understand the role of PNPLA3 in HCC development.
Terlipressin plus albumin versus midodrine and octreotide plus albumin in the treatment of hepatorenal syndrome: A randomized trial
TLDR
Tepatorenal syndrome (HRS), a serious complication of cirrhosis, is associated with high mortality without treatment and midodrine and octreotide plus albumin are used as an alternative treatment of HRS.
Value of two noninvasive methods to detect progression of fibrosis among HCV carriers with normal aminotransferases
TLDR
Among HCV carriers with NALT, Fibroscan is superior to the FibroTest in the noninvasive identification of fibrosis, for which excess alcohol consumption in the past and high viral load represent risk factors.
International genome-wide meta-analysis identifies new primary biliary cirrhosis risk loci and targetable pathogenic pathways
TLDR
This work discovers and validate six previously unknown risk loci for PBC and used pathway analysis to identify JAK-STAT/IL12/IL27 signalling and cytokine–cytokine pathways, for which relevant therapies exist.
Relevance of b‐values in evaluating liver fibrosis: A study in healthy and cirrhotic subjects using two single‐shot spin‐echo echo‐planar diffusion‐weighted sequences
TLDR
To investigate the relevance of increasing b‐values in evaluating liver fibrosis through the agreement of two diffusion‐weighted (DW) sequences, two diffusion-weighted sequences are studied.
VEGF and VEGFR genotyping in the prediction of clinical outcome for HCC patients receiving sorafenib: The ALICE‐1 study
TLDR
Once prospectively validated, the analysis of VEGF and VEGFR SNPs may represent a clinical tool to better identify HCC patients more likely to benefit from sorafenib.
Vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms and hepatocellular carcinoma in alcoholic cirrhosis.
TLDR
VDR genetic polymorphisms are significantly associated with the occurrence of HCC in patients with liver cirrhosis, more specific for patients with an alcoholic etiology.
Role of Interleukin 28B rs12979860 C/T Polymorphism on the Histological Outcome of Chronic Hepatitis C: Relationship with Gender and Viral Genotype
TLDR
IL-28B rs12979860 C/T polymorphism is associated with a greater likelihood of HCV persistence, particularly in HCV genotypes 1 and 4, and the T allele affects the severity of liver fibrosis.
