Bothrops moojeni venom kills Leishmania spp. with hydrogen peroxide generated by its L-amino acid oxidase.
It is shown that Bothrops moojeni crude venom presented a killing effect in vitro against Leishmania spp. Expand
Natterins, a new class of proteins with kininogenase activity characterized from Thalassophryne nattereri fish venom.
A novel family of proteins with kininogenase activity and unique primary structure was characterized using combined pharmacological, proteomic and transcriptomic approaches of Thalassophryne nattereri fish venom, and the complete sequences of natterins did not show any significant similarity with already described tissue kallikreins, Kininogenases or any proteinase. Expand
Effects of (60)Co gamma radiation on crotamine.
Ionizing radiation did not change the protein concentration, the electrophoretic profile or the primary structure of the protein although differences were shown by spectroscopic techniques. Expand
A single-step purification of bothropstoxin-1.
A single-step purification method for Bthtx-1, a phospholipase A2-like basic myotoxin from Bothrops jararacussu, which may be useful for small-scale purifications of myotoxins. Expand
Phylogenetic conservation of a snake venom metalloproteinase epitope recognized by a monoclonal antibody that neutralizes hemorrhagic activity.
MAJar 3 recognized an epitope present at the C-terminal part of the disintegrin-like domain, and neutralized jararhagin-induced hemorrhage, suggesting that the epitope recognized by MAJar 3 is present in other metalloproteinases throughout snake phylogeny. Expand
Biochemical and biopharmaceutical properties of PEGylated uricase.
The effects of pH and temperature on PEGylated UC-r indicated that the conjugates were more active at close physiological pH and were stable up to 70 degrees C, and sufficient reduction of the immunogenicity this enzyme by mPEG-pNP or mPeg-CN conjugation, making it suitable for a possible therapeutical use. Glutaraldehyde-treated bovine pericardium: effects of lyophilization on cytotoxicity and residual aldehydes.
It is demonstrated that compared with conventional glutaraldehyde-treated bovine pericardium, lyophilized pericARDium is less cytotoxic, with fewer glutARaldehyde residues. Expand
The selectivity filter of a potassium channel, murine Kir2.1, investigated using scanning cysteine mutagenesis
It is concluded that the topology of the Kir pore is similar, but not identical, to that of Kv channels, and the molecular model suggests that selectivity may be conferred both by aromatic residues (Tyr145 and Phe147) via cation‐π interactions and by backbone carbonyl groups (Thr142 and Gly144). Expand
Isolation and characterization of Bradykinin potentiating peptides from Agkistrodon bilineatus venom
The data suggest that the replacement of the highly conserved hydrophobic isoleucine by histidine does not affect the inhibitory activity, indicating that isoleucaine is not mandatory to inhibit the angiotensin converting enzyme. Expand
Study of gamma-radiation effects on crotamine and crotoxin
SummaryCrotoxin is a 23 kDa neurotoxin from Crotalus durissus terrificus and is composed of a 9 kDa acidic subunit (crotapotin) and a 14 kDa basic subunit (phospholipase A2). Crotamine is 4882 Da,Expand
