This work cloned COQ7 from Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and shows that indeed this gene complements an Escherichia coli mutant that lacks an unrelated 5-demethoxyubiquinone hydroxylase, and proposes a structural model for Coq7 as an interfacial integral membrane protein.

4-nitrobenzoate inhibited 4-hydroxybenzosate:polyprenyl transferase (Coq2) in a competitive manner and dose-dependently decreased Q in mammalian cells without accumulation of Q intermediates, and should prove a valuable tool for studies on both Q deficiency and Q supplementation.
