Grx4 was highly elevated upon iron depletion, suggesting an iron-related function for the protein, as determined by a specific enzyme-link immunosorbent assay, and most likely regulated by guanosine 3′,5′-tetraphosphate upon entry to stationary phase.

Fed-batch production of recombinant beta-galactosidase in E. coli was studied with respect to the specific growth rate at induction, and it is proposed that production at highspecific growth rate becomes precursor-limited, while production at low specific growth rates is carbon- and/or energy-limited.

Rocking-motion-type bioreactors may provide an interesting alternative to standard cultivation in bioreacts for cultivation of bacteria and recombinant protein production and internal substrate delivery systems such as EnBase® Flo provide an opportunity for adopting simple to use fed-batch-type strategies to shaken cultures.

The novel EnBase method is robust and simple-to-apply for high cell density cultivation in shake flasks and microwell plates and can easily be adapted to different microwell and deepwell plate formats and shake flask, which will be a helpful tool especially in high throughput applications.
