The Magnitude of Global Marine Species Diversity
The Hermit Crabs (Crustacea Decapoda, Paguridea) of Northwestern North America
TLDR
Two subgenera are herein raised to generic rank and a new genus is described of the Paguridea (exclusive of the Lithodidae) from northwestern North America.
Illustrated keys to families and genera of the superfamily Paguroidea (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura), with diagnoses of genera of Paguridae
TLDR
Keys, with illustrations of selected diagnostic characters, are provided for the seven families and 122 genera of the anomuran Superfamily Paguroidea, commonly known as hermit crabs and king crabs.
The barnacles of the Balanus amphitrite complex (Cirripedia, Thoracica)
TLDR
A qualitative and quantitative study has been made of the Recent taxa assigned, or related, to Balanus amphitrite Darwin and their relationships have been evaluated statistically through the use of the generalized distance function and discriminant function analyses.
HERMIT CRAB PHYLOGENY: A REAPPRAISAL AND ITS “FALL-OUT”
TLDR
This analysis has shown that Anomura indeed is a monophyletic infraorder, as is Hippoidea a monophical superfamily, however, while six of the paguroid families form a cohesive clade, the two subfamilies of Lithodidae form a distinct clade more closely related to the superfamily Hippoides than to the other paguroids.
ANNOTATED CHECKLIST OF ANOMURAN DECAPOD CRUSTACEANS OF THE WORLD (EXCLUSIVE OF THE KIWAOIDEA AND FAMILIES CHIROSTYLIDAE AND GALATHEIDAE OF THE GALATHEOIDEA) PART II - PORCELLANIDAE
TLDR
Annotated checklists of the world's Recent anomuran crustacean superfamilies Aegloidesa, Hippoidea, Porcellanidae and the crab-like Lithodoidea and Lomisoidea are presented and a collection of photographs depicting the variety exhibited by members of these taxa is enhanced.
Carcinization in the Anomura – fact or fiction? I. Evidence from adult morphology
TLDR
In this critique, the traditional examples of carcinization in the Anomura are reviewed and more modem variations on the theme assessed, indicating that Iithodid crabs did not arise from a hermit crab predecessor through the process of carcinization.
The recent species of Megabalanus (Cirripedia: Balanomorpha) with special emphasis on Balanus Tintinnabulum (Linnaeus) Sensu Lato
TLDR
Two taxa confounded by Darwin are reestablished and Lectotypes are designated for M. tintinnabulum sensu stricto and M. occator.
